T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports that while the Rangers have talked to the Blue Jays about left-hander Darren Oliver, a trade is unlikely to happen.
The Blue Jays picked up Oliver's $3 million option for 2013 earlier this winter, but his agent recently informed the club that his client will only continue his career if he gets a raise or a trade to the Rangers. With the Blue Jays not expected to give in to his demands, the 42-year-old left-hander may end up retiring. As of now, Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos is working under the assumption he won't be back.

During an interview with Chris Toman of MLB.com on Friday, Alex Anthopoulos said that he did not expect Darren Oliver to be with the Blue Jays on Opening Day.
Anthopoulos believes that the veteran left-hander will opt for retirement. Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports said Thursday that Oliver wanted to return in 2013, but not for the $3 million option that the Blue Jays have on him. Oliver has stated a desire to play for his hometown Rangers, so retirement isn't a foregone conclusion just yet.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi report that Darren Oliver wants to return in 2013 but not for the $3 million option the Blue Jays have on him.
The report states that Oliver "would rather retire than be away from his family for a salary that is well below market value." The Jays, though, reportedly are "over budget and unwilling to extend their payroll further." Oliver's wife and two sons live in Dallas, and the veteran left-hander would be willing to accept a trade to the Rangers, who he played for in 2010 and 2011. The 42-year-old produced a 2.06 ERA and 52/15 K/BB ratio over 56 2/3 innings this past season.

The 42-year-old posted a 2.06 ERA and 52/15 K/BB ratio over 56 2/3 innings this past season.

According to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com, Darren Oliver might play one more season if the Blue Jays trade him to the Rangers.
The Blue Jays exercised Oliver's $3 million option for 2013, but he's currently leaning toward retirement. However, since he still keeps his home in Texas, there could be a scenario where he would return. It's not clear if the Blue Jays and Rangers have engaged in any serious talks on the matter. Oliver, 42, posted a 2.06 and 52/15 K/BB ratio over 56 2/3 innings.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that Darren Oliver is leaning towards retirement.
The Blue Jays exercised Oliver's $3 million option for 2013, so he'll be back in Toronto if he does decide to come back. The 42-year-old appears to have plenty left in the tank, as he posted a 2.06 ERA and 52/15 K/BB ratio over 56 2/3 innings this season. The veteran lefty might choose to spend time with his family rather than continue his career.

Darren Oliver hasn't made a decision on whether he'll continue playing in 2013.
The Blue Jays hold a $3 million option on Oliver for 2013 that they'd surely be willing to pick up given the lefty's 1.78 ERA and 0.99 WHIP over 60 games this season, but the soon-to-be 42-year-old might just decide to call it a career. "I'm not thinking about it right now," Oliver said. "I'll worry about that when the season's over, when I'm at home, relaxing."
