Santana (back) could be available off the bench Tuesday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Santana will not start Tuesday, but he was able to take batting practice prior to the game, so it appears he was at least close to playing. Santana reported feeling "stiff" Tuesday, but if he is feeling better Wednesday, he could play for the first time since Saturday.

Santana hoped he would be able to play Tuesday following a team off day, but it appears he needs more time to rest his sore back. Aaron Hicks will get the start in center field in Santana's place.

Santana did not play Sunday after leaving Saturday's game with a sore back. He didn't sound too positive about returning, so he may need a few more days off.

The injury was suffered while Santana was making a throw home in the second inning. He's day-to-day as a result of the ailment. Aaron Hicks moved over to play center field upon Santana's departure.

Santana picked up three more hits on Friday against the Angels, as he went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.
The 23-year old Santana has been on a roll of late, with 13 hits in his last 33 at-bats (.394 batting average) to go along with nine runs scored and three stolen bases. Santana (.320/.356/.475) is a legitimate automatic play for the rest of the season considering his ability to hit for average and steal bases.

Santana went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, two runs scored and a walk in Minnesota's loss to the Orioles on Sunday.
Santana had a productive August, hitting .313 with three home runs, four triples, five doubles and 14 RBI in 131 at-bats. He's slashing .313/.351/.473 to go with seven home runs, 36 RBI and 12 stolen bases this season.

Santana went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored in Sunday's loss to Detroit.
Santana, who raised his batting average to .324 in the defeat, has produced at a high level in the leadoff spot for the Twins when healthy this season. He extended his hitting streak to nine games on Sunday and is batting .357 (15-for-42) with one homer, three triples, two doubles, and six RBI during the run.

Santana (.319/.355/.473) feasted on Tigers pitching on Friday as he went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and four RBI, while smacking his sixth homer of the year off starter Robbie Ray.
Everything went right for Twins hitters on Friday as the offense netted 20 runs in total. Santana contributed a nice chunk overall and has not seen his batting average dip below .305 since May 7. Look for Santana to continue to get starts in the outfield and at shortstop moving forward for the Twins.

Santana started at shortstop and went 0-for-5 in Saturday's win over Kansas City. He started at shortstop for the first time since June 25.
Manager Ron Gardenhire said he'd like to get Santana steady starts at shortstop the rest of the season. He's now played 19 games at shortstop, so he'll likely end qualifying at the position next season in most fantasy leagues even if he's used elsewhere next year.
