Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Braves are expected to release Dan Uggla. There were rumors last weekend that they might be cutting him loose, and now it appears they'll indeed make the move. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal is hearing the same as Sherman, though he says it's unclear whether Uggla will be designated for assignment or given his outright release. It's a moot point, as no one is going to claim him on waivers. Uggla is rarely playing for Atlanta these days and has hit just .175/.295/.332 batting line since the beginning of last season. He's owed roughly $19 million through the end of next season.

Dan Uggla has been suspended by the Braves for one game. There's no official word on what the suspension is for, but David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is hearing it's for tardiness. It was O'Brien that reported Uggla could be designated for assignment, but evidently the club isn't ready to make that move yet. Uggla has received just 20 at-bats since May 23 and has one hit over that time.
