Dan Uggla is taking batting practice Tuesday for the first time since LASIK surgery. Uggla has been dealing with vision problems all season and finally decided to get it taken care of last week. He's aiming to return from the disabled list as soon as he's eligible on August 28.

Dan Uggla announced that his vision is 20/15 following LASIK surgery. Astigmatism issues rendered his vision to about 20/30 or 20/35 prior to the procedure. "That tells me right there that it went good," Uggla said. "There are some things that are going to be cloudy or whatever at times. But over the next three, four, five days it should settle in." Doctors cleared Uggla to start taking batting practice when Atlanta arrives in New York on Tuesday to play the Mets. If all goes well, Uggla could be sent out on a minor league rehabilitation assignment later this week. He's eligible to return on August 28. "I feel like I could play today," Uggla said. "Who knows if I'd be effective or not, but that's how good I feel like I'm seeing right now."

Dan Uggla (eye surgery) hopes to return from the disabled list on August 28, the first day he's eligible. Uggla will undergo LASIK surgery later this week in hopes of fixing a season-long vision issue. "Obviously, I don't want to go on the DL whatsoever, but at the same time, we've got to do what is best for the team right now," Uggla said. "I've been struggling pretty bad and battling with the contacts and grinding with those things day in and day out, so I think the best thing is to go ahead and do it now."

Braves placed 2B Dan Uggla on the 15-day disabled list following eye surgery. Uggla has dealt with vision problems throughout the year and is finally getting the issue addressed. It's not clear how long he'll be sidelined, but the Braves have a large enough lead in the division that he can afford to take his time. Tyler Pastornicky has been recalled take Uggla's place on the active roster.

Dan Uggla went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the Braves' 8-2 win over the Mets on Wednesday. Uggla's homer, a three-run shot, gave him 47 RBI for the season. With 20 home runs, he's already surpassed his total from last year. And, as usual, his batting average is hovering around the Mendoza Line -- after his two-hit game, Uggla is batting .203.

Dan Uggla said Monday that the new prescription for his contacts have greatly improved his vision at the plate. Uggla has battled vision issues all year and will undergo Lasik surgery after the season is over. He's batted .277/.327/.574 with three homers and 12 RBI over his last 12 games, though, and gives plenty of credit to his new contacts. "There are some at-bats when it does not feel like it's quite there," Uggla said. "But more times than not, it's night-and-day different."

Dan Uggla went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer Friday against the Phillies. It was his 15th home run of the season, tying him with Justin Upton for the team lead. Wouldn't have expected that two months ago. Uggla recently started wearing contact lenses to address some vision issues, but it hasn't translated in the batting average department yet. Even with Friday's multi-hit game, he's hitting just .203 for the year.

Dan Uggla returned to the Braves' lineup Friday. Uggla has been dealing with vision issues and will attempt to wear contacts for the remainder of the season before undergoing Lasik surgery. If Uggla decides to undergo the procedure during the year, he would require a two week stint on the disabled list.
