Fantasy owners need not go into a frenzy over Sunday's bullpen order. More than anything, Miller's first save of the season seemed to be a courtesy from manager Terry Francona. Allen has been great this year, and he has a firm grip on the closer role in Cleveland.

Allen worked around a hit with a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless inning to record his 15th save of the season Sunday against the White Sox.

EDGE Analysis

Allen allowed a hit for the eighth consecutive outing, but he pumped in 11 of his 16 pitches for strikes and converted the save quite comfortably. The right-hander owns an uncharacteristically high 1.42 WHIP this season, but his 2.19 ERA and just one blown save illustrate his ability to work through adversity. A stellar 13.5 K/9 is a major factor in Allen's success this season, and even better results should be in store if he can begin to limit the baserunners moving forward.

Manager Terry Francona rarely calls for his closer in low-leverage situations, but Allen hadn't appeared in a contest since Monday (five games), so the skipper wanted to get the right-hander involved. After allowing three runs over his previous two outings, Allen's ERA sat at 2.61 -- its highest mark since April 9 -- entering Sunday, but he pushed that down to 2.49 while bumping his K/9 to 14.3.

It was Allen's first outing since blowing his first save of the year last Wednesday against the Reds. The right-hander was shaky yet again but managed to get the job done, allowing a solo dinger to slugger Khris Davis. Allen has made it a habit of walking a tight rope at times in the ninth (3.5 BB/9), but his 13.9 K/9 and 88.7 percent strand rate get him out of jams. He's been fortunate to only allow two home runs despite a lofty .417 BABIP, but until he blows more saves with regularity, the Tribe won't consider moving Andrew Miller into the ninth.

He'd converted 28 straight saves (22 in the regular season plus six in the playoffs) dating back to last August prior to this stumble, but Allen's blown save ended up being a matter of inches -- Billy Hamilton beat out a potential game-ending double play on a call that went to video review, while Michael Brantley just missed making a diving catch on a sinking line drive by Zack Cozart that brought home both runs. Despite his overall success Allen's had something of a rough May, posting a 3.72 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 10:7 K:BB in 9.2 innings, but his spot as Cleveland's closer remains very secure.

A walk and a hit put the tying run in scoring position with one out, but Allen buckled down to retire the final two men to close out the one-run victory. While his 1.45 WHIP is uncharacteristically high, Allen still owns a 1.45 ERA, a 14.5 K/9 and an American League-leading 13 saves on the season.

Allen pitched a shutout inning while allowing one hit to earn his 12th save of the year Saturday against the Astros.

EDGE Analysis

Allen had a fairly-easy opportunity as he came in with a three-run lead, and he had no trouble converting his 12th save. He'll continue to be a top fantasy option at closer for an excellent Indians squad.

He failed to strike anyone out, ending a streak of 13 consecutive appearances with at least one K, but Allen's 15.1 K/9 through 16.2 innings is still a career-high pace. In fact, his 1.62 ERA may actually be doing his performance to date a disservice, as it's supported by a bloated .406 BABIP. Even with Andrew Miller around, Allen appears to be one of the AL's most secure closers.

EDGE Analysis

Pitching with a two-run lead, Allen struck out the first two men he faced before Peter Bourjos sent a solo shot over the left field fence. He rebounded to get Derek Norris to foul out to first, ending the threat. Allen has allowed two runs in his last 2.2 innings, but he still carries a sharp 1.72 ERA, has yet to blow a save opportunity and owns a dominant 16.1 K/9 this season.

Allen suffered his first blown save and loss of the season after allowing a run on two hits and a pair of walks Wednesday in Toronto.

EDGE Analysis

It'd been 35 days since the AL's Reliever of the Month for April allowed a run. Allen has been lights out this year, but hiccups are part of the job. Owners can have full confidence that the closer will put this speed bump in his rear-view mirror next time out.
