Richard (finger) threw a bullpen session Saturday, his first since fouling a ball off his finger, Bill Center of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
X-rays came back negative after the incident and Richards will likely return to normal pitching activities this coming week. It's good news nonetheless for the Padres, as Richard is set to take a top spot in the starting rotation this season. Expect additional updates as his recovery progresses.

Richard fouled a bunted ball off the top of his finger, but X-rays came back negative, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Richard will probably rest a bit but could throw if he feels OK. He's set to occupy one of the top spots in the Padres' highly questionable rotation and, by default, will occupy a spot on NL-only fantasy radars. It's difficult to ignore that 2.41 ERA in 52.1 innings as a starter last year, though that'll be tough to repeat.

Manager Andy green revealed Tuesday that the Padres re-signed Richard to serve as a starter, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Padres have one of the worst starting rotations entering 2017, and Green said only two people have spots in the rotation thus far, with Richard being one of them. He posted a 2.52 ERA in nine starts and two relief appearances with San Diego last season and could find himself as the Opening Day starter depending on his spring.

Richard re-signed with the Padres on a one-year contract Tuesday, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 33-year-old's time with the Cubs in 2016 was disastrous, but he really turned things around upon a move to San Diego, posting a 2.52 ERA across nine starts and two relief appearances. Given the inexperience in their starting pitching ranks the way things stand now, Richard seems to be a likely candidate to garner one of the top spots in the Padres rotation until some of their younger options are ready for primetime.

Richard took a no-decision after allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks with one strikeout in six innings during Sunday's victory over the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Richard notched his second straight quality start despite managing just one strikeout -- his lowest total in a start this year. The 33-year-old doesn't miss many bats with a career 5.6 K/9 entering Sunday, but that hasn't stopped him from posting a 2.01 ERA in 49.1 innings since signing with San Diego on August 6. Richard has succeeded in large part due to his elite ground ball rate, which has resulted in just one home run allowed over his previous seven starts. He'll finish out the season on the road against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Richard (3-3) allowed two runs on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts over 6.1 innings to earn the win Monday over the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Richard continues to keep hitters off balance despite his middling stuff. He induced just six swinging strikes Monday night, but he used 13 groundouts to keep runners off the bases. Richard owns a 2.98 ERA, and while that's unlikely to be sustainable, Petco Park is the best possible venue for his pitch-to-contact skillset.

Richard allowed three runs on 11 hits and three walks with four strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision Tuesday night against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Despite allowing a season high in hits, Richard managed to keep the floodgates from bursting. Luckily for him, just two of those hits came with runners in scoring position, allowing him to keep his streak of six starts with three or fewer runs allowed intact. Richard has a ridiculous 1.04 ERA and a decent 27:13 K:BB in 35 innings since moving to the Padres rotation. Expect some regression, but the 33-year-old has pitched like a solid mid-rotation pitcher in his chance this season.

Richard (2-3) spun seven shutout innings with eight strikeouts, six hits and two walks in Thursday's rout of the Rockies at Coors Field.
EDGE Analysis
Despite Richard's recent success, many fantasy owners had to be looking to Rockies hitters Thursday night, only to be shockingly disappointed as the typically hittable lefty turned in his best start in a long, ling time. It's time for owners in deep formats to start taking Richard seriously -- he's given up only three earned runs in his last 31 innings (0.87 ERA), although his 25:12 K:BB in that span is less than elite. There's a lot of risk here, though, so don't count on him to keep up this ridiculous pace.

Richard threw five innings of one-run ball Friday versus the Dodgers, striking out four and walking just one. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Richard scattered 10 baserunners during Friday's start, but he escaped further damage by allowing just one extra-base hit and stranding nine men. He was pulled after throwing 82 pitches, 55 of which went for strikes, and he lowered his ERA to 3.29 for the season. He has been strong over his last four starts, posting a 1.17 ERA in 23 innings over that span, and he will have the opportunity to build on his recent success Thursday versus the Rockies.

Richard (1-3) threw seven shutout inning in a 1-0 victory over the Marlins on Saturday. He also struck out three and walked one.
EDGE Analysis
Base runners were aboard most of the night, and he only struck out a handful of hitters, but Richard stranded seven base runners to preserve the 1-0 victory. He also retired the final seven batters he faced. Richard has appeared in 30 games, three of which as a starter since coming to San Diego from the Chicago Cubs at the trade deadline. With the Padres, he is 1-2 with a 1.40 ERA, 1.241 WHIP and 14 strikeouts in 19.1 innings.
