Richard allowed two runs on six hits while walking one and striking out three over 5.1 innings for a no-decision in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
The 75-pitch outing lowered his ERA to 4.29 on the season, but he's struck out just 23 in 35.2 innings and has looked extremely hittable after his impressive start to the season. The veteran southpaw won't fool many batters and is purely a streaming option based on matchups in the deepest of NL-only leagues.

Richard (2-3) lasted just 3.1 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Diamondbacks, allowing six runs on eight hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Richard became predictable after falling behind in the count on many occasions, allowing at least three men to reach and yielding at least one run in each inning save for the third. He has been extremely hittable in each of his last three outings, allowing a whopping 26 base knocks in 16.1 innings pitched as his ERA has risen to 4.45. Richard has clearly regressed after a strong start to the season, but he will look to get back on track Sunday against a scuffling Giants offense.

Richard (2-2) held the Diamondbacks to one run on nine hits in Thursday's 4-1 win. He walked none and struck out eight.
EDGE Analysis
The soft-tossing lefty was in prime form Thursday, attacking an aggressive Diamondbacks lineup from the get-go (71 of 97 pitches for strikes) and actually coming out on top of an unfavorable matchup. The nine induced ground balls are right down the 33-year-old's alley, but the eight strikeouts were likely an anomaly after posting a pedestrian 4.5 K/9 in his three starts prior to Thursday's matchup. With a 3.04 ERA through four starts, Richard is likely garnering some deep-league attention after coming into the season completely off the fantasy radar. It would be wise to temper expectations in standard leagues though, as the veteran arm's pitch-to-contact style and rough injury history make him far from a sure thing.

Richard (1-2) took the loss in Saturday's start against the Braves, allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks across six innings with two strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Richard threw plenty of strikes but was done in by a pair of runs in a third-inning rally and two more on solo home runs in the sixth. He was masterful in blanking the Dodgers in his season debut but has allowed eight runs over 12 innings in two subsequent starts en route to a pair of losses. The lefty has given up two homers in each of those losses and will look to improve in that area as he looks to get back on track Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Richards (1-1) allowed five runs (four earned) and five hits while walking three and striking out three in six innings in a 5-3 loss to the Giants on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Richard's stunning victory over the Dodgers in his season debut last week was impressive, but the 32-year-old put up a line on Sunday that we're more accustomed to. The southpaw's elite groundball rate will make him a sleeper in the right matchups, but aside from that he has no fantasy upside with a career 5.6 K/9.

Richard (1-0) shut the Dodgers out for eight innings Tuesday, allowing just five hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
With his pitch count at 99, the veteran lefty wasn't allowed to start the ninth and go for a complete-game shutout, but this was still an incredibly impressive 2017 debut -- particularly considering that these same Dodgers just hung 14 runs on the San Diego pitching staff on Opening Day. That said, we're talking about a 32-year-old who put up a 41:31 K:BB last year, so don't get too excited.

Richard will start the second game of the season, the San Diego Union-Tribune's Dennis Lin reports.
EDGE Analysis
He will take the hill on Apr. 4 against the Dodgers, likely facing Kenta Maeda. Richard is far from a prototypical No. 2 starter, but such is the state of the Padres' rotation. He will follow Jhoulys Chacin and proceed Jered Weaver in what should be the worst rotation in baseball this season.

Richard is a possibility to make the Padres' Opening Day start, according to manager Andy Green, A.J. Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Of course, Green also added Jhoulys Chacin, Jered Weaver and "others" to the mix, per Cassavell, again proving this is an unattractive fantasy situation. The soft-tossing Richard hardly has the skills to make up for his lack of strikeouts. No Padres starting pitcher stands out as a must-draft option in mixed leagues, though NL-only drafters can take a guarded, cheap chance on them.

Richard (finger) returned to the mound and was hammered by the Indians to the tune of six runs on eight hits in his lone inning of work.
EDGE Analysis
Cleveland bats jumped on Richard early and often, knocking him out of the game before he could record an out in the second inning. Sure, it is spring training and stats do not count, but for a pitcher like Richard, fantasy owners in deep leagues would like to see some sort of success before buying any stock in the the 33-year-old. While he didn't say so, his injured finger could have played a role in dismal performance. The Padres have already declared Richard as a part of their starting rotation, but he won't start the year on many fantasy teams, especially after Sunday's shellacking.

Richard (finger) threw a bullpen Thursday and could be ready for exhibition games as early as next week, MLB.com's AJ Cassavell reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran lefty fouled a ball off his finger early in spring training, but has been progressing well and tossed another bullpen session Thursday. Provided that he continues at his current pace, Cassavell reports that he could be back on a mound in a game in the coming days. Richard posted a strong 3.33 ERA across 67.2 innings in 2016, but his 4.18 FIP and low velocity suggest some regression could be on the horizon for the 33-year-old.
