Diamondbacks purchased the contract of INF Chris Owings from Triple-A Reno.
Ownings was named Rookie of the Year in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League in late August after hitting .330 with an .841 OPS, 12 home runs, 81 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 125 games. The 22-year-old has a bright future as a fantasy infielder but is unlikely to get ample playing time down the stretch this season with the D'Backs.

Diamondbacks prospect Chris Owings has been named the Rookie of the Year for the Triple-A Pacific Coast League.
The honor shouldn't come as a surprise, as the 22-year-old has put together an outstanding season with Triple-A Reno. Through 118 games, Owings is batting .331/.359/.481 with 46 extra-base hits, 16 stolen bases and a 94/20 K/BB ratio. More significantly, the shortstop leads all PCL hitters in runs scored (97), hits (170) and total bases (247). However, he hasn't played in a game since suffering a hamstring injury on August 12. The Diamondbacks will need to add Owings to their 40-man roster following the season to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft, so there's a chance he could get a look in the majors this September if he's healthy.

Diamondbacks prospect Chris Owings was 4-for-4 on Tuesday night with three home runs, three runs scored and five RBI.
The 21-year-old is enjoying a monster season at Triple-A Reno, as he's batting .355/.375/.509 with 143 hits, 23 doubles, 11 home runs and 15 stolen bases through 92 games. Due to the Diamondbacks influx of shortstop prospects during the offseason, Owings was moved up to Triple-A this season despite posting a .668 OPS with 69 strikeouts in 69 games at Double-A in 2012. While Owings has certainly hit his way onto the major league radar, his lack of plate discipline (76/12 K/BB) leaves something to be desired.
