Diamondbacks prospect Chris Owings has been named the Rookie of the Year for the Triple-A Pacific Coast League. The honor shouldn't come as a surprise, as the 22-year-old has put together an outstanding season with Triple-A Reno. Through 118 games, Owings is batting .331/.359/.481 with 46 extra-base hits, 16 stolen bases and a 94/20 K/BB ratio. More significantly, the shortstop leads all PCL hitters in runs scored (97), hits (170) and total bases (247). However, he hasn't played in a game since suffering a hamstring injury on August 12. The Diamondbacks will need to add Owings to their 40-man roster following the season to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft, so there's a chance he could get a look in the majors this September if he's healthy.
