Whitley (elbow) threw a 25-pitch live batting practice session Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
He remains about a week behind fellow Tommy John surgery recoveree Alex Cobb, but was able to get through his session without setbacks. A minor league rehab assignment is in Whitley's future at some point in the next several weeks, but he's likely to throw at least one more session before that's given serious consideration.

Whitley (elbow) is scheduled for a bullpen session Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Whitley will join fellow Tommy John surgery recoveree Alex Cobb in throwing another session, as both prepare to make minor league appearances in the near future if they continue setback-free. The 26-year-old is trying to stick with the Rays following a forgettable two-season stint with the Yankees during which he generated a 5.02 ERA over 28 appearances.

Whitley (elbow) mixed in some breaking balls in a 35-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old reclamation project continues to progress in his comeback from May 2015 Tommy John surgery, and the introduction of breaking pitches represents another step in that process. Whitley generated an unsightly 5.02 ERA over 28 appearances with the Yankees over parts of two seasons, with 16 of those being starts. It's unclear how he'd be deployed by the Rays once fully healthy, which still remains a minimum of a month into the future.

Whitley (elbow) has progressed to throwing off the top of a mound in his rehab, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old right-hander joined fellow May 2015 Tommy John surgery recoveree Alex Cobb in taking the next step in the rehab process on Tuesday. Whitley could be ready for a return to game action by mid-season, assuming his rehab continues setback-free. He amassed a 5-5 record and 5.02 ERA with the Yankees in 2014-2015, and was claimed off waivers by the Rays back on Nov. 20.

EDGE Analysis
Whitley underwent Tommy John surgery about 11 months ago, and Tuesday marked the first time he pitched off a mound since then. The 26-year-old will continue to steadily increase his rehab and could be ready for game action at some point in the middle of the season.

Whitley (elbow) has been placed on the 60-day disabled list
EDGE Analysis
Whitley had Tommy John surgery in May and isn't expected to be available until late in the 2016 season. Thursday's transaction opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for middle reliever Ryan Webb, who signed a one-year major league contract with the Rays.

Whitley was claimed off waivers by the Rays on Friday, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Whitley pitched in parts of two seasons with the Yankees and was underwhelming, posting a 5.02 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 95 innings with the club in 2014-15. He underwent Tommy John surgery in May and likely won't be back until the end of next season, but the 26-year-old did put together a stellar 2.01 ERA and 0.96 WHIP with Triple-A Scranton just two years ago, so there's still some intrigue in the right-hander.

The Yankees transferred Whitley to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday.
Whitley is out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, so the Yankees moved him to the 60-day disabled list to open a spot on the 40-man roster for Slade Heathcott.

Whitley (elbow) underwent successful Tommy John surgery Tuesday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Manager Joe Girardi revealed that Whitley's elbow ligament was found to be almost completely torn, but the skipper also said everything went smoothly with the procedure. Whitley now faces what is typically a 12-16 month rehab process, meaning a return in 2016 is by no means guaranteed.

Whitley (elbow) is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.
Whitley was initially diagnosed with a right elbow strain, but after further examination, it was determined that the right-hander will need Tommy John surgery, effectively placing him on the shelf for a full calendar year. The announcement likely means Chris Capuano will hang on to his rotation spot in the short term. Masahiro Tanaka, who tossed a bullpen session Monday, could eventually displace the lefty, however. Whitley will finish his 2015 season with a 1-2 record, 4.19 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 19.1 innings. Team physician Chris Ahmad will perform the surgery.
