Chase Headley has gone back to his natural "unorthodox" grip of the bat, which he last used during his breakout 2012 season.
Headley broke a bone in spring training of 2013, forcing him to go to a more conventional grip. "I struggled when I came back, so I went to a more conventional grip," he said. "I decided to try to stay with it. I gave it a fair number of at bats this year and didn't feel like I was able to control the barrel like I have in the past." Headley has had two four-hit games over his last five contests, suggesting the grip change is working. It's hard to get too excited since he's still batting only .225/.301/.344 overall, but the change is certainly notable.

Chase Headley went 4-for-5 with a two-run triple versus the Rockies on Monday.
Two four-hit games in four days have given Headley's batting average a nice boost, all of the way up to .229. Unfortunately, he still has just two extra-base hits and four RBI in his last 17 games. Trade suitors will want to see more power from him before parting with any top prospects.

According to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, the Blue Jays continue to talk to the Padres about acquiring third baseman Chase Headley.
With the recent injury to Edwin Encarnacion, the Jays now have an even bigger need for a right-handed bat in the middle of their lineup, and Headley seems like a nice fit. Where there's this much smoke, there's usually fire, so don't be surprised if a deal gets hammered out in the coming days.

Chase Headley lead the Padres offensive attack in Friday's 2-0 victory over the Giants, going 4-for-4 with an RBI.
All four of his knocks in the ballgame were singles. Generating plenty of interest on the trade market, the veteran infielder is having a rough season at the plate, hitting just .216/.298/.330 with six homers and 25 RBI in 65 games.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi and Ken Rosenthal report that the Yankees have been scouting Chase Headley "regularly."
The Yanks have been connected to Headley often over the last couple years, and they're evidently still interested even though the third baseman is hitting just .204/.293/.327 this season. Headley recently admitted that he expects to have to deal with a herniated disc in his back for the rest of the year, but it's unclear if that will give the Bombers pause. The third baseman is making $10.525 million this season and will be a free agent this winter.

Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union Tribune reports that the Blue Jays are interested in acquiring Chase Headley.
According to reports, the Jays and other interested clubs will have representatives on hand to watch Headley this weekend. Set to hit free agency after the season, it may be best for the Padres to flip him at the deadline for the best possible package they can get, rather than letting him walk away for nothing.

Chase Headley said Tuesday that he expects to have to deal with the herniated disc in his back for the rest of the season.
Headley doesn't expect to know for 6-8 weeks whether the injury will heal on its own. He was given an epidural over the weekend and is back in the lineup Tuesday, but it sounds like he'll be playing compromised. It doesn't bode well for him improving dramatically on his .200/.283/.333 batting line this season.

Chase Headley is back in the Padres' lineup Tuesday.
Headley hadn't played since last Thursday due to a herniated disk in his back that had been bothering him for weeks. He was given an epidural over the weekend and is ready to give it a go. The third baseman is hitting just .200 with six home runs and a .616 OPS this season.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Chase Headley (back) received an epidural in his back on Friday and has been bothered by a herniated disk in his back for several weeks.
Headley is batting just .200 with six home runs and a .616 OPS this season, so the back injury explains the struggles. Still, his walk year continues to be a nightmare.
