Headley was held out of the lineup Thursday with a stiff back, The Westchester Journal News reports.
EDGE Analysis
It doesn't sound as though the injury is a serious one, though with the Yankees likely benching many of their regulars Friday after clinching a wild card spot, Headley may be held out of the lineup again. The 31-year-old appears as though he'll be good to go at some point over the weekend and in the playoffs.

Headley is out of the lineup Sunday against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
It looks like it's just a maintenance day for Headley, who has been in the lineup for the last 16 games. During that time, Headley has gone just 12-for-63 (.190) at the dish, so he could stand to benefit from the day off. Brendan Ryan will spell him at third base.

Headley fell a triple shy of the cycle in Sunday's 20-6 blowout of the Braves, finishing the day 3-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored. He also drew walks in his other two plate appearances.
EDGE Analysis
After going just 1-for-9 in the Yankees' previous series against the Astros, Headley turned things up a notch over the weekend. He notched six hits and drew two walks during the Bronx Bombers' three-game sweep of Atlanta, while driving in seven runs and scoring six times. Headley has performed mostly as the Yankees expected after signing him to a four-year, $52 million contract extension in the offseason, as he's hitting .277/.339/.404 on the campaign, marks comparable to what he posted upon joining New York prior to last year's trade deadline.

Headley went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI and two runs in Friday's win over the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
Like several of his teammates, Headley has had a great month despite his recent struggles entering Friday's game. Headley has batted .315 over the past month with 16 RBI and 17 runs. He could be worth a pickup as a bench player down the stretch.

Headley (calf) is back in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Red Sox, Newsday's Erik Boland reports. Headley missed the last three games, but he ran on the field prior to Friday's contest. His calf inflammation seems to have been a minor issue, and he'll have some extra time to rest during the All-Star break.

Headley (calf) remains out of the lineup Friday against Boston, Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York reports. Despite being out of the lineup, Headley was reportedly running in the outfield earlier Friday afternoon, indicating that he's making some progress with his injured calf muscle. It's still unclear if he'll return before the All-Star break, but the Yankees will turn to Cole Figueroa at third base again Friday in Headley's absence.

Headley (calf) is out of the lineup Thursday. This was expected as Headley said he was unlikely to play Thursday after an MRI Wednesday revealed right calf inflammation. Cole Figueroa will start at third bast Thursday and Headley should be considered day-to-day.

Headley underwent an MRI on his right calf Wednesday that showed inflammation and would be surprised if he plays Thursday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Headley could be able to return Friday for the series opener against the Red Sox. If the Yankees feel like the injury is serious, he could rest through the All-Star break to return at full strength.
