Mize (1-2) allowed six runs on seven hits and three walks with one strikeout in 4.2 innings in a loss to the Royals on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Mize allowed solo shots to Andrew Benintendi in the second inning and Ryan O'Hearn in the fourth. In the fifth, Mize got into trouble and was lifted for reliever Tyler Alexander. It's been a bit of a rough start to 2021 for Mize who has a 5.23 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 14:7 K:BB across 20.2 innings. He's given up 11 runs in his last two starts. The right-hander is expected to face the White Sox on Wednesday in his next start.

Mize is averaging 95.2 mph with his fastball so far this season and has added more velocity than any pitcher in the league to date, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mize averaged 93.7 mph on his fastball last year, and no pitcher in the majors has made as big of a jump in the early going this season. The increased life on his fastball has helped the 23-year-old get off to a solid start, as he's recorded a 3.38 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 13 strikeouts through his first three appearances (16 innings pitched). The former No. 1 overall pick should continue to improve, and he's an intriguing fantasy player, particularly in dynasty formats.

Mize (1-1) took the loss against Oakland on Saturday, pitching five innings and allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out four.
EDGE Analysis
Mize gave up only seven hits in the contest, but four went for extra bases, and three left the yard. The right-hander didn't walk anybody but hit two batters while throwing 63 of 95 pitches for strikes. Mize entered the outing having given up just one run over 11 innings, so his ERA still stands at a solid 3.38 despite Saturday's rough start. His next opportunity to take the mound will come at home against Kansas City on Friday.

Mize (1-0) allowed four hits and two walks over seven scoreless in a win over the Astros on Monday. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
The 23-year-old outpitched 37-year-old Zack Greinke by a wide margin, blanking one of the American League's top offenses over seven. Mize only induced six swinging strikes on 89 pitches, but he has added a couple ticks to his fastball this season and the arrow is trending upward after this performance. He will look to keep it going this weekend in Oakland.

Mize gave up one run on five hits and two walks over four innings during Tuesday's extra-inning win over the Twins. He had four strikeouts and didn't factor in the decision.
EDGE Analysis
The 23-year-old wasn't particularly efficient as he needed 82 pitches to record 12 outs, but he limited the damage by surrendering only one extra-base hit. Mize should continue building up his pitching count and lines up to pitch at Houston on Monday.

Mize allowed two earned runs on five hits and a walk across 4.2 innings in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
It was a mostly positive final spring start for Mize, who wraps up the exhibition slate with a 7.23 ERA across 18.2 innings. Despite the struggles, the 23-year-old was able to earn an Opening Day rotation spot, and he has the talent and pedigree to take a step forward in his second MLB season. Mize is lined up to face the Twins on April 6 in his first start of the regular season.

Mize has officially won a spot in the Tigers' rotation, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mize didn't look particularly impressive in his seven-start debut last season, struggling to a 6.99 ERA while striking out a modest 19.5 percent of opposing batters and walking 9.8 percent. That shouldn't put too big of a dent in the excitement surrounding the 2018 first overall pick, though it does give reason to think he may not live up to his considerable potential right away. Michael Fulmer will open the season in the bullpen to clear a rotation spot for Mize.

Mize allowed two runs across four innings in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays. He gave up five hits while striking out nine.
EDGE Analysis
Mize had allowed 11 earned runs over his previous two spring outings, so this was a welcome change of pace, and the nine strikeouts point to the righty's considerable upside. The 23-year-old still has a high 8.36 ERA in Grapefruit League play, but he's in the mix for an Opening Day rotation spot and definitely has the talent to turn some heads this season, though he may struggle with consistency in only his second taste of the majors.

Mize allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk across 3.2 innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
The five strikeouts are about the only silver lining here, as Mize otherwise had another poor performance after allowing six runs in his previous start, and his spring ERA is up to 9.90. The 23-year-old should still have a bright future in the majors, but he might benefit from starting the season at Triple-A and building up some confidence first.

Mize pitched two scoreless innings in Tuesday's Cactus League game against the Pirates. He walked three and struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Mize didn't have great control, but he made up for it with the three strikeouts, and he generally looked sharp on the mound. The 23-year-old endured some rough patches in his MLB debut last season, registering a 6.99 ERA across seven starts, but the talent is certainly there for him to take a big step forward this year.
