Mize allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits across 4.1 innings and did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Orioles. He walked one and struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Home runs did in Mize in this one, as he allowed three solo shots, including two by Anthony Santander. The long ball has plagued the righty lately, as he's now given up exactly three home runs in back-to-back starts. For the season, Mize has a 1.65 HR/9, which is an improvement from the 2.2 HR/9 mark he posted during his 2020 rookie campaign. Hopefully, the recent struggles keeping the ball in the park are just a blip on the radar for the 24-year-old, who has been solid overall with a 3.66 ERA this year. Mize will look to get back on track in his next scheduled start Sunday against Cleveland.

Mize (6-6) allowed four runs on seven hits across five innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Red Sox. He walked one and struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Mize was sharp through four innings, with a J.D. Martinez solo shot his only blemish, but he struggled in the fifth. The 24-year-old allowed two more home runs in the frame, including a two-run shot by Enrique Hernandez. Mize has mostly done better at limiting home runs this season, as his HR/9 is down from 2.2 in 2020 to 1.5 so far in 2021, so perhaps this was just a minor hiccup against a tough lineup. Mize lines up to face a softer Baltimore lineup in his next scheduled start Tuesday. He pitched seven innings against the Orioles on Thursday without allowing an earned run.

Mize (6-5) allowed one unearned run on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts over seven innings in Thursday's win over the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie righty turned in his longest outing in nearly two months, holding the Orioles off the board until the seventh inning when a throwing error by Akil Baddoo allowed Baltimore's lone run to score. It was Mize's first quality start in five July appearances and the first during that stretch in which he was able to complete five-plus innings. The strikeout numbers are underwhelming -- just 87 in 111 innings -- but Mize owns a rock-solid 3.41 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in his 20 starts this season. He's tentatively scheduled to face the Red Sox at home in his next start.

Mize didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 9-8 loss to the Royals, giving up four runs on six hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
The whiffs were nice, but Mize hit a wall after four scoreless innings and let Kansas City back into the game after Detroit has jumped out to a 6-0 lead. The young right-hander hasn't completed five innings in any of his last four starts, but on the season he still sports a respectable 3.63 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 85:28 K:BB through 104 frames.

Mize tossed four scoreless innings in a no-decision Monday against the Rangers. He allowed one hit and struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Mize was in a position to cruise to his sixth win of the season, as the Tigers put up 14 runs of support, but the young righty was pulled after tossing just 54 pitches through four innings. Mize hasn't gone past four innings in any of his last three starts, so it appears the club is being extra cautious with the 24-year-old's workload. He's currently at 99.1 innings this year, up from the 28.1 he logged in his MLB debut during the shortened 2020 campaign. Mize has been solid with a 3.44 ERA, but his fantasy value will be curbed unless he's allowed to work deeper into games. He lines up to face the Royals in his next scheduled start Saturday.

Mize didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Rangers after tossing four innings of two-run ball, allowing two hits and fanning two.
EDGE Analysis
Mize has given up two or fewer runs in each of his last three starts, but it's also worth noting he has pitched into the sixth just once in that span. The young right-hander is averaging nearly six innings per start this season, but he's accumulated just seven frames across his last two appearances. He will enter the All-Star break with a 3.59 ERA across 95.1 innings.

Mize (5-5) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out four in three innings, taking the loss versus the White Sox on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Mize wasn't very efficient Friday, throwing 34 of 56 pitches for strikes in his shortest outing this year. The 24-year-old was stuck with the loss as Detroit's offense didn't show much in the contest. He's pitched to a solid 3.55 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 75:27 K:BB across 91.1 innings. Detroit may elect to be cautious with the young starter at times over the second half of the season to reduce the risk of injury in his first full major-league campaign. He lines up for a road start in Texas next week.

Mize (5-4) allowed one run across six innings to earn the win in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Astros on Saturday. He gave up six hits and two walks while striking out five.
EDGE Analysis
Against a potent Houston lineup, Mize was very effective, and the righty has now held his opponents to three earned runs or fewer in 11 straight starts. He hasn't been overpowering hitters (71 strikeouts in 88.1 innings), but the 24-year-old has been solid with a 3.46 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. The former No. 1 overall pick seems to be settling in at the MLB level as a reliable starter, and he'll look to keep rolling in his next scheduled start Friday against the White Sox.

Mize allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings in Sunday's win over the Angels. He struck out four and did not factor in the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Mize gave up exactly three runs for the fourth straight start and hasn't given up more than three runs in any of his last 10 outings dating back to April. The right-handed rookie was cursed by the long ball Sunday, with all three runs coming on a pair of homers by Jared Walsh and Shohei Ohtani. He's sporting a 3.61 ERA and a 66:24 K:BB through 82.1 innings this season. Mize is projected to face Houston at home next weekend.

Mize (4-4) allowed three runs across 6.2 innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Royals. He gave up seven hits and a walk while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
Mize wasn't overly dominant but did enough to earn his fourth win of the season. His ERA actually went up to 3.49 despite the quality start, which demonstrates how solid the second-year pro has been lately. He's now allowed three earned runs or fewer in nine straight outings, and he's gone six or more innings in eight of those starts. The 24-year-old will look to keep rolling in his next scheduled appearance Sunday against the Angels.
