Detroit manager Ron Gardenhire said he'd like to have Mize in his rotation "right now" but acknowledged that the team would let him develop further, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mize was likely to pitch in Triple-A this season, but with the minor-league season canceled, he finds himself in Detroit's 60-man roster pool for summer camp. The 23-year-old is an outstanding prospect, and it sounds like he could make his MLB debut later this summer. "He's moving really quick," Gardenhire said. "For me, it can't be quick enough. I like him a lot." Behind Matthew Boyd, the Tigers have the likes of Jordan Zimmermann and Ivan Nova serving as rotation placeholders, so there is certainly an opportunity for Mize to make his mark soon.

Mize will be a part of the Tigers' 60-man player pool this season.
EDGE Analysis
This comes as little surprise, as the Tigers will now be able to work closely with one of their top prospects this summer. Mize could potentially make his MLB debut at some point this season, though he's not a lock to do so.

Mize will likely be on the Tigers' 20-man taxi squad when the regular season gets underway, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
This doesn't come as much surprise, as there was chatter about the possibility a month ago. Teams are unlikely to have the benefit of a minor league season, so a taxi squad is the best place to continue the development of a top prospect such as Mize. The 23-year-old could also push his way into the majors at some point this season, depending on how the righty looks and what needs arise on the MLB roster.

Mize could make an expanded Tigers' roster or taxi squad to begin a shortened 2020 season, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
A number of details still need to be worked out about a potential MLB season in 2020, but current proposals aim for an early July start, a shortened season, and expanded rosters and taxi squads to give teams more flexibility. In such a scenario, the Tigers could add Mize to their bullpen and let him get his feet wet at the MLB level, especially because it looks unlikely that there will be a minor league season. Service time issues would still need to be considered, and Detroit may opt to be overly cautious with their star prospect, but it's possible we see Mize with the Tigers this summer.

Mize has been throwing five days per week in Nashville, including a 40-pitch bullpen session every Wednesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
He has access to a facility where he can throw, work out and get physical therapy while observing proper social distancing. Mize said he is frustrated with the shutdown because he had hoped to reach the majors this year, and that is still his goal if the season is able to get underway at some point. If there is a MLB season, the Tigers will be faced with a difficult decision with Mize and the rest of their prized upper-level pitching prospects, as there is unlikely to be a traditional minor-league season, so the only way to get them innings in a competitive setting might be in the majors.

Mize will likely begin the year in the rotation at Triple-A Toledo, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
This isn't much of a surprise, as Mize posted a strong 2.55 ERA and .209 opponent batting average in his first full professional season last year, which included 15 games at Double-A. The first overall pick in the 2018 draft figures to be on the fast track to the majors, and his debut could happen this summer.

Mize allowed two earned runs on three hits and a walk in an inning of work during Sunday's Grapefruit League win over the Pirates. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Mize, the top overall pick in the 2018 draft, struggled in his spring debut. The 22-year-old pitched well last year at High-A and Double-A, and while he'll likely head back to the minors after spring training wraps up, it should only be a matter of time until he's back in the majors.

Mize was invited to the Tigers' major-league spring training Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Mize reached the Double-A level in 2019, where he posted a 3.20 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP over 78.2 innings before being shut down in August due to workload concerns. The right-hander will try to prove his durability as the season progresses and could join the major-league rotation sometime in 2020.

Mize has been shut down for the remainder of the minor-league season, Tom Reisenweber of the Erie Times-News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Tigers wanted to play it safe with Mize in what was his first full season as a pro, opting to shut the righty down after 109.1 innings. The 22-year-old impressed across stops with High-A Lakeland and Double-A Erie, posting a combined 2.55 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 106:23 K:BB. Mize is slated to pitch in instructional league before reporting back to the upper minors to begin the 2020 campaign.

Mize (shoulder) rejoined Double-A Erie on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Mize threw four innings during his second rehab outing for High-A Lakeland on Tuesday, allowing two runs and retiring the last nine hitters he faced while throwing 73 pitches. One of baseball's top pitching prospects, Mize has been out since June 14, dealing with minor right shoulder inflammation. The 22-year-old and 2018 No. 1 overall pick has posted a dominant 8-0 record with a 1.09 ERA and 80:16 K:BB during his second season in the minors.
