Mize (0-3) allowed six runs on five hits across 4.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Twins. He walked two and struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Making his third appearance against Minnesota this year, Mize wasn't particularly effective, and he was touched for two home runs for the second straight start. The 23-year-old tossed a season-high 89 pitches in what could be the last outing of his debut campaign, unless the Tigers end up playing a doubleheader against St. Louis Monday. Mize underwhelmed with a 6.99 ERA and 1.48 WHIP across 28.1 innings, but the former No. 1 overall draft pick remains an important part of Detroit's future, and he could take a step forward in 2021.

Mize (0-2) allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out one across 3.2 innings to take the loss Thursday against Cleveland.
EDGE Analysis
Mize surrendered two home runs to Jose Ramirez, accounting for all three of his earned runs. He also battled his control throughout the outing, starting seven of the 19 batters he faced with a strike and finding the zone on 41 of his 79 total pitches. It's been a disappointing debut campaign for Mize, as he has worked at least five innings in only one of his first six starts. Overall, he has a 6.08 ERA with a 22:11 K:BB across 23.2 frames. He's currently projected to take his last turn through the rotation Wednesday at Minnesota.

Mize allowed two earned runs across 5.1 innings and did not factor into the decision in Friday's 4-3 loss to the White Sox. He gave up just one hit and two walks, while striking out five.
EDGE Analysis
This was the best start of Mize's young career, as he pitched into the sixth inning for the first time in his debut season. The 23-year-old was also impressive in allowing just a single hit to a strong Chicago lineup. Mize has shown good stuff since arriving in the majors, but as is the case with many young pitchers, consistency and lasting longer into games have been issues. He'll look to build some momentum and pitch well again in his next start, which is scheduled for Thursday against Cleveland.

Mize allowed three earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three across four innings Sunday against the Twins. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Mize retired the first six batters he faced, striking out two. However, he labored from there and surrendered multiple earned runs in the third frame. Mize has shown glimpses of promise in each his four starts in the major leagues, but has yet to work more than 4.1 innings and has surrendered multiple runs on each occasion. Mize is currently projected to take the mound again Friday at the White Sox.

Mize allowed two earned runs across three innings and did not factor into the decision in Sunday's win over the Twins. He gave up two hits and two walks while striking out four.
EDGE Analysis
Making his third MLB start, Mize continued a trend of not going very deep into the game. The 23-year-old has maxed out at 4.1 innings and has yet to throw 80 pitches in an outing, though the 67 he threw Sunday were actually the fewest he's recorded in his brief career. The Tigers are clearly being cautious with their prized prospect and not pushing him too hard in his first MLB season, which caps Mize's fantasy potential in the short term. He lines up to face the Twins again Saturday in his next scheduled start.

Mize (0-1) allowed four runs (three earned) across 3.1 innings to take the loss Monday against the Cubs. He gave up five hits and two walks, while striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
Making his second MLB start, Mize struggled against a tough Chicago lineup. He struck out just two hitters, down from the seven strikeouts he recorded in his debut, and needed 76 pitches (44 strikes) to retire 10 batters. Detroit figures to be cautious with its prized prospect, as Mize has yet to reach 80 pitches in a game, but should keep trotting him out there every five days to let him build confidence in the majors. The 23-year-old is lined up to face Minnesota in his next start Saturday.

Mize allowed three earned runs on seven hits across 4.1 innings in a no-decision Wednesday against the White Sox. He struck out seven and did not issue any walks.
EDGE Analysis
Mize's MLB debut was a mixed bag. He exhibited excellent command in not walking anyone, and the seven strikeouts showcased how filthy his stuff can be. However, the rookie was also plenty hittable at times. He allowed a solo home run to Edwin Encarnacion in the second inning, then couldn't escape the fifth when he gave up a double and two singles before getting pulled with one out and having tossed 73 pitches. The 9-13 Tigers seem to be fading out of contention, so they'll probably keep Mize in the rotation and let him pick up valuable MLB experience, even if he has some hiccups in the early going. The 23-year-old is in line to take the mound again Monday against the Cubs.

Mize's contract was officially purchased ahead of his start Wednesday against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
This was a formality, as this start had already confirmed, Mize just needed to be added to the 40-man roster. The only concern with Mize as a pitching prospect has been his inability to hold up in the second half in back-to-back seasons, dating back to college, but that should be a non-issue in this shortened season. He doesn't have quite the strikeout juice that some of the game's other elite pitching prospects possess, but this is a decent matchup on paper, as he faces a righty-heavy White Sox lineup.

The Tigers announced Monday that Mize will be called up from their alternate training site to make his big-league debut Wednesday against the White Sox, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 first-year player draft heads to the majors after making just 26 career minor-league starts. While none of those starts came at the Triple-A level, he did produce a 3.20 ERA in 15 trips to the mound for Double-A Erie last season, combining a decent 23.5 percent strikeout rate with a strong 5.6 percent walk rate. While it might be a surprise to see Mize post big strikeout numbers in the majors right away given his relatively modest marks in that category two levels lower last season, the 23-year-old has an impressive and deep repertoire and could certainly add more whiffs as he matures. Injury issues remain the biggest question mark in his profile, as he missed time with a shoulder strain last season. Detroit is expected to wait until Wednesday to formally add Mize to its 40-man and 28-man active rosters.

Mize was reassigned to the Tigers' alternate training site Monday.
EDGE Analysis
This makes it official that Mize won't begin the year in the majors, but that was never really expected that he'd break camp with the Tigers. The 23-year-old is still one of the team's top prospects, and he could make his debut at some point this summer.
