Mize (7-9) took the loss Wednesday against Minnesota, giving up three runs on five hits with four strikeouts over four innings.
EDGE Analysis
Things got off to a rough start for Mize, who gave up singles to Luis Arraez and Byron Buxton, a three-run homer to Jorge Polanco, and another single to Josh Donaldson before registering an out. Mize allowed just one hit over the rest of his outing but was lifted after completing four frames. The 24-year-old right-hander finished his first MLB season with a 3.71 ERA and 118:41 K:BB across 150.1 innings.

Mize didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Royals, allowing one run on two hits over three innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Detroit is limiting the innings of the younger members of its rotation down the stretch, and as a result Mize hasn't worked more than three innings in any of his four September starts. The 24-year-old has a 4.09 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 10:2 K:BB through 11 innings on the month, and he should get one more outing in 2021 next week in Minnesota.

Mize and the Tigers won't play Wednesday against the White Sox after the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Although Mize was slated to start Wednesday's series finale against the White Sox, he'll now take the mound in Friday's series opener against Kansas City, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Across his last five starts, the right-hander has recorded a 3.32 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 19 innings.

Mize allowed a run on three hits and a walk over three innings in Friday's loss against the Rays. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Mize coughed up a sacrifice fly to Austin Meadows in the first inning before turning in two scoreless frames. He's gone three or fewer innings in each of his last three appearances as the Tigers are clearly restricting his workload down the stretch. The 24-year-old righty is sporting a 3.64 ERA through 143.1 innings. Mize is projected to face the White Sox at home next week in what's expected to be another short outing.

Mize (7-8) allowed three runs across two innings to take the loss Saturday against the Rays. He gave up three hits and a walk while striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
Mize struggled in the second inning, allowing all three of his earned runs, and the Tigers didn't bring him back after that, shutting down the righty with just 48 pitches on his ledger. The team is clearly being cautious with Mize, who has now tossed 140.1 innings this season after recording just 28.1 during his MLB debut in 2020. The 24-year-old is a key part of the Tigers' future and should have fewer restrictions in 2022 and beyond. Mize lines up to start again Friday against this same Tampa Bay squad, and fantasy managers should expect another short outing.

Mize didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Cincinnati after tossing three scoreless innings, fanning two.
EDGE Analysis
Mize hadn't tossed such a short outing since July 2, when he also hurled three innings against the White Sox -- though in that game he gave up two earned runs on four hits and a walk while fanning two. Mize has allowed two or fewer runs in three of his last four appearances and while he has struggled to pitch deep into games, at least he's limiting the damage. He owns a 3.95 ERA across six appearances (27.1 innings) since the beginning of August.

Mize (7-7) allowed three runs on five hits and a walk over six innings Monday, striking out four and taking a loss against Minnesota.
EDGE Analysis
Mize was dominant to start the game, cruising through three perfect innings with a pair of strikeouts. He then allowed three runs in the fourth, including a two-run shot by Josh Donaldson. It was the first time he completed at least six innings since July 29 but his season ERA grew slightly to 3.59. Mize is lined up to face the Reds on the road this weekend.

Mize (7-6) pitched five scoreless innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Cardinals. He allowed three hits and two walks while striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
Mize looked sharp through five frames, but manager A.J. Hinch decided to pull his righty after just 76 pitches. The 24-year-old has now logged 129.1 innings, which is up significantly from the 28.1 he posted during his MLB debut last season. His professional high was the 109.1 innings he tossed between High-A and Double-A back in 2019, so it makes sense that the Tigers are being careful with Mize's workload, given his importance to the team's future. He's pitched well with a 3.55 ERA this year, but his fantasy value will be capped if he's not allowed to work deep into games. Mize is currently projected to start again Monday against the Twins.

Mize allowed two runs on four hits across four innings and did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Angels. He walked four and struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Mize struggled a bit with command and needed 88 pitches to get through his four innings. He's failed to go beyond five innings in his last three starts, and he has a 6.08 ERA during that stretch. Despite the recent struggles, it's still been a pretty good sophomore season overall for Mize, as he has a 3.69 ERA and 1.17 WHIP for the year. The 24-year-old, who is now at 124.1 innings pitched after logging 28.1 in 2020, will have his workload monitored the rest of the way as the Tigers deploy a six-man rotation. Mize is currently lined up to pitch again next Tuesday against the Cardinals.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Mize will be pushed back in the pitching schedule and make his next start Tuesday versus the Angels in Detroit, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
After tossing 4.1 innings earlier this week in Tuesday's win over Baltimore, Mize would have been available to start on four days' rest for Sunday's series finale with Cleveland. However, with the Tigers keen on managing the workloads for Mize, Tarik Skubal and Matt Manning, Hinch noted that all of the three young hurlers would pitch on extended rest for remainder of the season, with the goal of having the trio make seven more starts each. In order to accomplish that goal, expect the Tigers to add a sixth starter to the rotation Sunday, with Triple-A Toledo right-hander Drew Hutchison representing one potential candidate to fill the opening.
