Workman has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket, Evan Drellich of CSN New England reports.
EDGE Analysis
Workman will take the roster spot vacated by Steven Wright's trip to the 10-day disabled list with a knee injury. Over eight innings for Pawtucket, Workman has yet to allow a run and has given up just one hit and one walk with 11 strikeouts. Look for him to join the bullpen, but his stay in the majors might be short, depending on what the Red Sox depend to do with their rotation and their plans upon David Wright's return from an elbow injuy.

Workman has pitched seven shutout innings over three appearances at Triple-A Pawtucket, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Workman has allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out 10 of the 23 batters faced (43.5 percent). Two years removed from Tommy John elbow surgery, Workman's fastball has consistently lived in the low-90s, a contrast to a year ago when his velocity and arm strength fluctuated. He's still not at pre-surgery levels (93-94 mph), but there's optimism that Workman could rejoin Boston's bullpen if there's a need for another right-hander.

Workman was optioned to the Red Sox's minor-league camp Tuesday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Workman was auditioning for a long-relief role with the big club and pitched well during six appearances in Grapefruit League play, but due to his limited action in competitive games since undergoing Tommy John surgery in June 2015, the Red Sox understandably want the right-hander to build up his innings count in the minors. If he pitches well at Triple-A Pawtucket, Workman could reemerge as a bullpen option for the Red Sox at some point later in the season.

Workman, who hadn't faced major-league hitters since the end of the 2015 spring training, threw a live batting practice session Monday, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Workman was pleased with the results of the outing, noting that he pitched better throughout the session and located well. There's very little chance the right-handed Workman breaks camp with the Red Sox, but he's fully healthy for the first time in two years and has MLB-experienced arm out of the bullpen. He could find his way back to Boston if he pitches well at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Workman is expected to open the 2017 in the minors where he can get back into a routine and rebuild arm strength, Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Workman's career has stalled since undergoing Tommy John elbow surgery during the offseason leading up to the 2015 season. After missing all of 2015, he pitched in just 12 minor league games (including rehab outings) in 2016, but was slowed by elbow soreness and a strained rib cage muscle. The right-hander now reports his fastball back up to 93 mph and tight offspeed pitches during his Instructional League stint this past fall. He came up as a starter, but has a much better MLB track record out of the bullpen and will remain there as long as he's in the Boston organization.

Workman says he feels back to normal heading into spring training, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Since undergoing Tommy John surgery in June of 2015, Workman has dealt with several setbacks and pitched in just eight minor league games last season. However, after reporting to Instructional League heading into the offseason, it appears the right-hander is finally ready to go. With a loaded starting rotation already in place, Workman will need to impress if he wants to earn a bullpen spot out of spring training.

Workman agreed to a one-year contract with the Red Sox on Friday, avoiding arbitration.
EDGE Analysis
The 28-year-old hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2014. He underwent Tommy John surgery in June of 2015 and endured several setbacks in his rehab, but he got some work in with the Double-A club and in instructs late in the season. Workman will have to compete for a spot in spring training.

Workman (elbow) was reinstated from the DL on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Workman's road back from Tommy John surgery has been filled with setbacks, but he was able to throw 20 innings on a rehab assignment at the end of the 2016 season. In that time, he allowed 18 runs, giving him a 7.65 ERA.

Workman (elbow) will report to Instructional League to pitch three more times before going into the offseason, Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Workman's return from Tommy John elbow surgery has been a tough road for the right-hander. He's currently on rehab assignment with Double-A Portland, where he owns a 9.00 ERA in 10 innings. We're unsure of what his immediate future within the organization will be, but apparently the Red Sox will reassess come spring 2017.

Workman (elbow) allowed two runs on three hits and five walks over 1.2 innings in his first rehabilitation appearance at Double-A Portland.
EDGE Analysis
In seven rehab outings at various stops in the organization, Workman has a 6.94 ERA and walked nine batters in 11.2 innings. Workman continues the path back to the majors after undergoing Tommy John elbow surgery, but that path is unlikely to end in Boston this season.
