The Marlins will recall Brad Hand to start the first game of Friday's doubleheader against the Nationals. He's getting the nod over Jacob Turner, who the Marlins have chosen to remain on the farm to get more seasoning. Hand, who holds a 3.66 ERA and 116/54 K/BB ratio over 128 innings at Triple-A, will be sent back down right after the start.

Marlins optioned LHP Brad Hand, RHPs Alex Sanabia and Evan Reed, 3B Matt Dominguez, OF Kevin Mattison and C Kyle Skipworth to Triple-A New Orleans. Hand gave the Marlins some decent outings at times last season and will likely be the team's "No. 6" starter going into the 2012 campaign, though Sanabia could also wind up holding that unofficial title if he's healthy. Dominguez is still terrific with the glove but simply hasn't progressed with the bat as hoped.

Brad Hand was perfect for two innings, striking out three, Tuesday versus the Tigers. Hand jumped from Double-A to the majors last June and held his own, but the Marlins didn't want to have to count on him right from the start this year. Because of the Mark Buehrle and Carlos Zambrano additions, Hand is expected to go to Triple-A and wait his turn for another shot.

The Marlins might shut down Brad Hand. Hand, 21, has pitched more than 173 innings this season between the minors and majors. He topped out at 113 2/3 innings last year between Single-A and Double-A.

Brad Hand made it through just four innings Sunday, allowing four runs -- three earned -- on five hits and a walk in a loss to the Nationals. He struck out five. Hand has now lost five straight starts to fall to 1-8 on the year. The good news is that he now has more strikeouts than walks for the season, but a 38/35 K/BB ratio over 60 innings is quite hideous. He'll face off with the Brewers next weekend.

Brad Hand yielded three runs on seven hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Braves. He struck out five. Hand was cruising along until the sixth, when Brian McCann followed a walk and a single with a three-run bomb. The left-hander has won just won of his 11 starts this year for the Marlins and holds an ugly 33/34 K/BB ratio over 56 innings. Assuming he gets another start, he'll carry a 4.02 ERA and 1.46 WHIP into this weekend's start against the Nats.

Brad Hand was a hard-luck loser Wednesday after allowing one run in six innings against the Mets. Hand allowed three hits, walked four and struck out none, so it wasn't exactly a dominant effort. The league is hitting just .227 off Hand, but he's hurt himself by walking 32 batters in 50 2/3 innings to date. He's currently 1-6 with a 3.91 ERA.
