Hand will get the start Sunday against the Braves, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports. He has a 4.82 ERA in 65.1 innings as a starter this season for the Marlins, and with only 36 strikeouts over that stretch, he's got very little upside, even against the free-swinging Braves. This will likely just be a spot start, as Henderson Alvarez (oblique) or even someone from the farm system could be able to slot into the rotation next week.

Brad Penny, not Hand, will start Tuesday's game against the Mets, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. The Marlins skipped Hand in the rotation this week and will replace him at the back end with Brad Penny starting Tuesday, meaning the lefty will be relegated to the bullpen for the time being. Hand has posted a 4.71 ERA and 1.44 WHIP across 84 innings this season, but may end up getting another chance to start if Penny falters.

Hand will have his next start skipped as the Marlins turn to a four-man rotation this week, the Miami Herald reports. Thanks to an off day Thursday, the Marlins do not need a fifth starter until September 2. Hand struggled in his last turn, allowing four runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings against Colorado. He'll likely be available out of the bullpen for the remainder of the week and could stick there if the Marlins decide to give Brad Penny another start down the line.

Hand allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks and three strikeouts in 4.1 innings in the Marlins' 7-4 loss to the Rockies on Sunday. Hand has recorded three losses in his last four appearances. After holding a 2.70 ERA in July, Hand's ERA has risen to 5.68 in August. He's also allowed six home runs in his last three starts.

Hand will start Sunday at Colorado, the Miami Herald reports. With a couple of starters returning from injury this week, it became clear that either Hand or Brad Penny would be bumped from the starting rotation. Hand, who tossed a scoreless inning in relief Wednesday, earned the nod after racking up five quality starts in his past six turns. The lefty owns a solid 3.79 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 40.1 inning pitched since the All-Star break.

Hand will be available out of the Marlins' bullpen over the next several days as his role for the remainder of the season is decided, the Miami Herald reports. Henderson Alvarez and Jarred Cosart returned from injury this week, leaving just one starting spot for Hand and Brad Penny. Hand bounced back with a quality start this week after getting touched up for seven earned runs in Cincinnati a week ago and has taken significant strides during his latest stint in the rotation. Since Hand earned a second chance as a starter at the start of July, Hand has posted a 3.79 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 54.2 innings pitched. He's been quality in five of his last six starts while establishing himself as a viable back-end starter.

Hand worked seven innings Friday night, allowing three earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three in a losing effort against the Diamondbacks. Hand rebounded nicely from a rough outing versus the Reds this past Sunday. Despite being touched up for seven earned runs over 4.2 innings in that effort, the Marlins' young lefty has been mostly solid through nine starts since joining the rotation back on July 3rd. During this stretch, Hand has posted a 3.79 ERA and 1.23 WHIP across 54.2 innings.

Hand gave up seven runs on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings Sunday to pick up the loss against the Reds. Hand's nemesis was Devin Mesoraco, who clocked two homers for six RBI against him, including a grand slam in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach. Prior to Sunday he had only allowed four homers all year.

Hand pitched 6.1 innings Tuesday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four batters in the Marlins' 6-3 win over the Pirates. Hand, unfortunately, had to settle for the no-decision After a rocky start in the bullpen, Hand has settled into a groove as a starter. In his last seven starts, Hand has allowed just 14 runs (13 earned)in 43 innings pitched. As a result, Hand has lowered his ERA from 6.38 to 4.03 in those seven starts. Hand's next scheduled start is set for Sunday on the road against the Reds.
