Colon is expected to make one start for Triple-A Rochester and then be called up to join the Minnesota rotation July 18 against the Yankees, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
It looks like the Twins intend Colon to take over the 5th starter role after the All-Star break, although that could change if he struggles in his first Triple-A outing.

Colon signed a minor league contract Monday with the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
Colon was brutal for the Braves, as he mustered just an 8.14 ERA and 1.78 WHIP over 13 starts for Atlanta. The Twins will likely give him a few chances at Triple-A Rochester to prove he has something left in the tank before giving him a chance for the big league squad. Injuries to Hector Santiago and Trevor May have given the Twins a need for starting pitching depth, so they have little to lose by taking a flier on Colon.

The Braves released Colon on Thursday, Grant McAuley of 929 AM The Game reports.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander was designated for assignment last Thursday, but the club -- unsurprisingly, considering his 8.00 ERA in 13 starts -- found no takers on the trade or waiver claim market. Atlanta remains responsible for all of his salary except the prorated portion of the league minimum contract ($535,000) of his $12.5 million if he lands with another organization. A team with a need for a reliable innings workhorse could bring him aboard as a back-end rotation arm or even in long relief. Perhaps a reunion with the Mets is in the cards.

Colon was designated for assignment by the Braves on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
The writing for this move was on the wall, as manager Brian Snitker refused to commit to Colon sticking around following another poor start in Colon's return from the DL on Wednesday. Colon posted an ERA north of 8.00 in 13 starts with the Braves this season. This could be the end of the line for the 44-year-old, although the Mets, with whom Colon spent the 2014-16 seasons, may be interested in his services especially after Robert Gsellman went down with a hamstring strain earlier in the week.

Colon, who was responsible for six earned runs Wednesday, didn't get a vote of confidence from manager Brian Snitker after the rough outing, and Mark Bowman of MLB.com doesn't expect him to make his next start.
EDGE Analysis
Colon now holds a hefty 8.14 ERA on the season, and his peripherals certainly don't imply much improvement on the horizon. His last four starts have been particularly dreadful, as the 44-year-old owns a 13.80 ERA, 2.73 WHIP and even 9:9 K:BB ratio over that stretch. Although the Braves haven't made any announcements official just yet, they do currently have a rotation of six starters, so Colon's prospective removal would do little more than give the remaining options some extra work. It's a situation to keep an eye on in advance of his next scheduled start, which tentatively would land early in next week's series against the Astros -- one of the best offenses in baseball.

Colon (2-8) allowed six runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out just two batters through four innings during Wednesday's loss to San Diego.
EDGE Analysis
Colon has allowed four runs or more in seven of his past 10 starts and sports an 8.14 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 6.0 K/9 for the year. The veteran is a desperation fantasy option at this stage of the game, and his 5.14 FIP shouldn't instill any confidence that he can turn things around. A daunting matchup against Houston at SunTrust Park is up next for Colon, too.

Colon (oblique) was activated Wednesday prior to his start against the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Colon has been out since June 6 with a left oblique strain. The veteran was initially supposed to pitch last Wednesday, but was scratched from his start due to back stiffness. Colon will make his return to the rotation likely needing to piece together a couple quality start in the next few games in order to remain a part of Atlanta's rotation. The 44-year-old has struggled mightily this season, giving up seven runs or more in his last three starts.

Colon (oblique) will be activated from the disabled list and start Wednesday's game against the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Colon has been on the disabled list since June 6 with a left oblique strain but will rejoin the Braves' rotation Wednesday. The 44-year-old held an ugly 7.78 ERA over his first 12 starts (59 innings) this season.

Colon (oblique) will no longer start Wednesday's game against the Giants due to back stiffness, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
Colon will now stick on the disabled list for a little while longer as he waits for the stiffness in his back to subside. It's unclear when the 44-year-old will be able to return to the rotation, but the Braves will stick with their current five-man rotation until then, with Sean Newcomb and Jaime Garcia moving up to start Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

Manager Brian Snitker confirmed that Colon (oblique) would come off the 10-day disabled list to start Wednesday against the Giants, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports.
EDGE Analysis
As expected, Colon will be ready to rejoin the rotation this week after reporting no issues with his oblique during his bullpen session a few days earlier. Rather than moving prospect Sean Newcomb to the bullpen or to Triple-A Gwinnett to make room for Colon, the Braves will instead go with a six-man rotation this week. If Newcomb continues to perform well and Snitker ultimately decides to remove a starter from the rotation down the road, Colon could be in danger of losing his spot after submitting a 7.78 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over his first 12 starts of the season.
