Colon re-signed with Texas on a minor-league deal Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Colon was released by the Rangers on Saturday but a reunion was considered likely at the time. The 44-year-old could be up in the big leagues when the Rangers need a fifth starter on April 2. He'll have to perform a lot better than he did in 2017 if he's to be a fantasy asset, though, as he recorded a 6.48 ERA with a 13.7 percent strikeout rate.

Colon was released by the Rangers on Friday but may return to the team on a minor-league deal in the near future, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Colon reported to the team's facility Saturday morning in order to participate in a full workout and try to negotiate terms for a new contract. The Rangers would like to have Colon pitching at the Triple-A level to open the season. During the 2017 campaign, the right-hander posted a 6.48 ERA and 1.59 WHIP over 28 starts between Atlanta and Minnesota.

Colon could make at least one start in the regular season after the Rangers announced Martin Perez (elbow) will open the season on the disabled list, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The plan is for Perez to pitch in an exhibition game for Triple-A Round Rock next week and, if all goes well, he'll be activated and join the rotation April 5 to pitch against the Athletics in Oakland. That means Texas will need a fifth starter at least through the first turn of the rotation, and Colon is the most prominent candidate. He posted a 3.00 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP over five Cactus League starts. The 44-year-old right-hander is in camp on a minor-league deal, and the Rangers have to make a decision soon, lest Colon opt out. Adding Colon to the final 25-man roster would cover the Rangers over the uncertain early portion of the season.

Colon allowed three hits and one walk while striking out two over 5.1 scoreless innings in Thursday's start against the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Colon, who is still in the hunt for the final spot on the rotation, had his best outing of the spring in what was his final Cactus League start. That should leave a good impression on manager Jeff Banister, who has yet to finalize his starting rotation. Banister will get a look at Martin Perez, who is scheduled to start Friday against the Padres. Perez pitched five strong innings in his first spring start after rehabbing an elbow injury and will lock down the fifth spot with another effective outing. Where that leaves Colon is anyone's guess. He has an out in his contract if he's not on the major-league roster by March 24. The Rangers could use him in the bullpen as a long reliever / spot starter, but that's a role they envision for Jesse Chavez.

Colon allowed five runs on on seven hits, including three home runs, over four innings in Saturday's game against the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Colon entered the game with a 1.04 ERA over four Cactus League starts, looking like he was going to crash the Rangers' starting rotation. Those ambitions took an ugly turn Saturday against a representative Royals lineup. Colon remains in the mix despite the outing, but much will depend on how Martin Perez (elbow) looks in his start Sunday. It boils down to this: if Perez is ready to start the regular season, Colon could be the occasional sixth starter/long reliever, however, that's a role the Rangers had in mind for Jesse Chavez.

Colon allowed one unearned run on two hits while striking out three over four innings in Sunday's start against the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Colon was a strike-thrower Sunday, hitting the zone on 40 of his 53 pitches while throwing first-pitch strikes to 12 of 15 batters faced. For the spring, the 44-year-old right-hander has allowed just one earned run and one walk over 8.2 innings. His performance alone is good enough to earn the non-roster invitee a spot on the 25-man roster, and his chances improved considerably Sunday when manager Jeff Banister removed Matt Bush as a starter candidate. Colon has an out in his contract and can opt for free agency if he's not on the major-league roster by March 24.

Colon allowed two runs (none earned) on five hits and a walk while striking out two over 2.2 innings in Tuesday's game against Oakland.
EDGE Analysis
Colon didn't get help from his defense, but he also allowed six baserunners and got himself in the kind of trouble where an error can kill. This was his second start of the spring and first with the main club after throwing a split-squad game five days ago. He's in the mix for a spot at the back end of the rotation, battling with at least four other candidates.

Colon allowed one run on two hits while striking out one in a split-squad game Thursday against San Diego.
EDGE Analysis
The 44-year-old Colon made his debut after signing with the Rangers earlier this month. Having Colon start a "B" game is a sign the Rangers have assured him of nothing. He'll have to prove himself all over again. We'd be foolish to write him off completely, as Colon has defied convention by pitching into his 40s while being largely effective until he bottomed out with a 6.48 ERA in 28 starts between Atlanta and Minnesota in 2017.

Colon agreed to a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Colon's deal includes an invitation to spring training. Colon played for the Braves and Twins over the course of the 2017 season. In that time he started 28 games and compiled a bleak 6.48 ERA and 1.59 WHIP. While he could see occasional starts for the big club, his drastic decline limits his fantasy value heading into the upcoming season.

Colon (7-14) allowed a single run on three hits and a walk while striking out four batters through 6.1 innings to take the win against Detroit on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The 44-year-old veteran will wrap up the regular season with a 5.18 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 5.6 K/9. While Colon managed to spin a number of solid outings throughout the year, his final numbers showcase his lack of reliability and upside in the majority of fantasy settings.
