Colon (4-5) tossed seven innings Sunday, allowing two runs on a walk and seven hits in a 2-0 loss to Minnesota. He struck out five batters.
EDGE Analysis
Colon went seven innings for the first time since May 26 and struck out at least five opponents for the first time since April 15. Unfortunately, his offense couldn't muster up anything against Jose Berrios, who simply out-pitched Colon. The 45-year-old right-hander still owns an unsightly 4.72 ERA in 87.2 innings this season and only has 54 strikeouts to show for it. He'll look to get back in the win column next weekend at home against the White Sox.

Colon (3-4) allowed eight runs on nine hits, including three home runs, and one walk while striking out three over 3.1 innings in Tuesday's 12-5 loss to the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Colon was a nice story for the Rangers early in the season, but there's nothing special about his performance as we enter the summer. The 45-year-old right-hander has a 6.11 ERA over his last 10 starts and leads MLB with 19 home runs allowed. He was never expected to be a starter when the Rangers signed him during the offseason, and he was certainly never expected to be second on the staff in innings, but that's state of Texas' staff. There isn't much at the upper level of the minors, and manager Jeff Banister is mulling a decision to remove Matt Moore from the rotation, so it looks like Colon will make his next start scheduled for Monday in Kansas City.

Colon will have his next start moved up to Wednesday against the Athletics, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Colon was originally scheduled to pitch Thursday against the Astros, so the change brings about a much more favorable matchup for the veteran right-hander. The Rangers want to give Mike Minor an additional day of rest, and Monday's off day allows Colon to move up a day while still throwing on normal rest.

Colon (2-2) allowed six runs on eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts in a loss Monday to the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Colon surrendered four home runs for the second time this season Monday night, which makes it even more remarkable that the 44-year-old still owns a 3.51 ERA. Velocity wasn't a factor for Colon on Monday, as he still touched the mid-90s with his fastball, but Yankees hitters were still able to jump on the fastball when Colon missed in the zone. Colon still has pinpoint control and the veteran know-how to eat valuable innings for the Rangers, but he is past the point of his career when he missed bats with regularity, and that will make consistency difficult in today's major leagues. Colon will look to get back on track Saturday against Kansas City.

Colon (2-1) got the win Wednesday, shutting out the Mariners over 7.2 innings while striking out three and allowing four hits.
EDGE Analysis
A week away from his 45th birthday, Colon is a long way away from his days of overpowering hitters, but he's finding ways to continue defying age and turn in productive outings nonetheless. His low strikeout and walk numbers (32:4 K:BB over 51 innings) have let the righty pitch deeper into games and be more efficient - he threw first-pitch strikes to 22 of the 27 batters he faced. Hitters do have an incredibly low .204 BABIP against Colon though, so his 2.82 ERA may start to creep up if that number regresses more toward the mean. He'll toe the rubber Monday against the Yankees.

Colon didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Tigers, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk over five innings while striking out four.
EDGE Analysis
The ageless one had his shortest start of the season, throwing 60 of 98 pitches for strikes before leaving the game with the score knotted at 3-3. The Rangers have a couple of off days coming up, so Colon and his surprisingly respectable 3.32 ERA will get some extra rest before his next outing Wednesday in Seattle.

Colon will make his next start Saturday against the Blue Jays, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Doug Fister (hip) returning from the 10-day disabled list to take the hill Wednesday against the Athletics and an off day Thursday affording reliever-turned-starter Mike Minor an extra day of rest, the Rangers could have gotten by with a five-man rotation this week if desired. However, manager Jeff Banister has apparently elected to give Colon a chance to redeem himself after the burly right-hander struggled his last time out April 21 against Seattle following four strong showings to begin the season. Though Colon hasn't formally secured a rotation spot, the Rangers will likely find a way to give him at least semi-regular starts so long as he performs respectably in that role. The Rangers aren't exactly ripe with strong rotation options as it is, with the starting staff producing a collective 5.00 ERA this season, which ranks 22nd among all teams.

Colon came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 9-7 loss to the Mariners, giving up four runs on seven hits and a walk over 5.2 innings while striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
Unsurprisingly, the 44-year-old wasn't able to duplicate his near no-hit performance against the Astros last week, throwing 53 of 78 pitches for strikes and generating only three swinging strikes. Colon still has a 2.59 ERA and 19:3 K:BB in 24.1 innings, but with both of the Rangers' starting middle infielders on the disabled list right now, relying so much on his defense will make him even more volatile than usual. He faces another potentially tough test in his next start, a road outing Friday in Toronto.

Colon will start Saturday's game against the Mariners, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After an impressive showing Sunday, Colon had tentatively been named the starter of Saturday's game, and the Rangers have officially decided that they'll send the 44-year-old to the hill. In his last start, which came against the Astros, Colon allowed just one run on one hit and a walk over 7.2 innings.

Colon is the expected starter Saturday at home against the Mariners, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Colon's start Sunday against the Astros was billed as a spot start, a fill-in for the injured Doug Fister (hip), but after he flirted with a perfect game and no-hitter against the Astros, plans may have changed. The soon-to-be 45-year-old dazzled the world champions, using primarily a two-seamer with arm-side run, and has been Texas' best starter. Once Fister is ready to return, manager Jeff Banister has a decision to make, however, Colon's gem Sunday may have made it for him. The Rangers don't have any young prospects ready to pitch in the majors at this time, so having Colon in the rotation would not be blocking anyone's development time. It seems logical that he should be given the ball every fifth day, instead of returning him to the bullpen.
