Colon allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out seven as he didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
Colon was flirting with a perfect game heading into the eighth inning, but he surrendered a walk and a base hit that ended his night. He battled against Justin Verlander, who also gave up just one hit and one run across eight innings. The 44-year-old right-hander has been outstanding through his first four appearances, owning a 1.45 ERA with 17 strikeouts across 18.2 innings.

Colon pitched the final three innings of Tuesday's 11-1 loss to the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
This works out well for Colon, who is tentatively scheduled to start Sunday at Houston, putting him on a five-day routine. He'll be the temporary rotation replacement for Doug Fister (hip), but this could easily turn into a full-time gig. The Rangers are 26th in team pitching (4.93 ERA) and worse when limiting to starters (5.66 ERA, 28th). Colon is a proven out-getter and should be in the mix after Fister's return. The motivation is there for the team. Colon, on a starter's workload, becomes a more viable trade chip later in the season for a team that's not expected to challenge in 2018.

Colon will get another turn in the rotation and is tentatively scheduled to start Sunday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Doug Fister (hip) hit the disabled list Tuesday, which opened a spot in the Rangers' rotation. Colon was the logical choice to fill in for a spot start considering he's already on the 25-man roster and was solid in his lone start back on April 2. As it stands, Colon is expected to start Sunday against the Astros on the road.

Manager Jeff Banister said his projected rotation through this weekend is "not set in stone," suggesting that Colon could get a second start, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Texas will have a day off Thursday, which gives Banister some flexibility to rearrange his rotation, or possibly give Colon a second start. "We'll continue to evaluate it," Banister said. "He's a valuable part of the process now, whether it's in a starting role or the bullpen." Given that the Rangers have trailed by at least four runs in seven games so far -- they've lost all of them -- Colon could emerge as alternative to the spotty pitching the team has received thus far from its starters. Texas ranks 22nd in starters' ERA at 4.42.

Colon struck out four and allowed one hit in two scoreless innings out of the bullpen in Sunday's 7-4 loss to the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Colon made just his 10th relief appearance of his career, and this was his first time pitching since a start last Monday. The Rangers are calling his role undefined, but for now, Colon will be used as a multi-inning reliever or spot starter. Colon has shown he can still get through lineups multiple times and will likely end up as a member of the rotation.

Colon will remain on the Rangers' active roster and pitch out of the bullpen, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Rangers optioned Jose Leclerc to Triple-A Round Rock to make room on the 25-man roster for Martin Perez (elbow), who started Thursday against Oakland. Colon's role isn't well defined at the moment, though it's very likely we'll see him get some spot starts in addition to pitching long relief.

The Rangers are trying to find a way to keep Colon on the roster, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Colon gave manager Jeff Banister reason to reconsider his status when he held Oakland to one run over six innings, which remains the longest outing by a Texas starter this season. In what role Colon lands is still undetermined, but Banister didn't sound like a manager ready to part with someone who gets outs in the majors. "He had a great game, crisp with all his pitches," Banister said. "We've got decisions to make. We've got [Martin] Perez coming back. When we finalize that, we'll let you know, but we like what we saw. He did a great job." As Banister alluded to, Martin Perez will be activated to start Thursday, so a roster spot will be needed. The Rangers could option Jose Leclerc. That would leave Colon as a long reliever/spot starter, which obviates the need for keeping Jesse Chavez around.

Colon allowed one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out four over six innings in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Colon is the first Rangers starter to throw six innings, a significant achievement on a team that burned out its bullpen in the four-game opening series against the Astros. This start was billed as a one-time event, but the 45-year-old reiterated he can still pitch at the major-league level. That just might be good enough to stick around for a few more starts.

Colon's contract was selected from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
As expected, Colon is up in the majors to make his scheduled start against the Athletics. He may not remain there long, as Martin Perez (elbow) is eligible to return from the 10-day disabled list Thursday and appears to be ready to go. In corresponding moves, Nick Gardewine was optioned to Triple-A while Ricardo Rodriguez was transferred from the 10-day DL to the 60-day in order to open up a spot on the 40-man roster.

Colon will officially start the season at Triple-A Round Rock but will be up with the Rangers on April 2, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Colon will sit in the minors for a few days so that the club can roster an extra reliever, but he'll be up as soon as the team needs a fifth starter. The 44-year-old may be a fan favorite, but his fantasy value is very limited, as he posted a 6.48 ERA last year and has now moved to one of the best hitters' parks in the league.
