Bartolo Colon surrendered five earned runs in seven innings Saturday in a loss to the Rangers. The struggling Texas lineup got to him for eight hits -- including two home runs. Colon is now 8-7 on the season with a 4.04 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. He'll try to right the ship next week at home against the Braves. The veteran right-hander is expected to be made available to teams leading into the July 31 trade deadline.

Mike Puma reports that the Mets "will listen to offers for Bartolo Colon and may actively shop the veteran right-hander." Well, of course they are. Colon inked a two-year, $20 million contract over the winter and has pitched well of late after a slow start, putting up a 3.88 ERA over 16 starts overall. He's owed roughly $14.5 million through the end of 2015, but that shouldn't really be a stumbling block to get a deal done. Puma notes that Mets general manager Sandy Alderson "has no pressure to deal Colon, and the Mets could wait past the July 31 non-waiver deadline in attempting to maximize their return."

The big man yielded just four hits to the red-hot Cardinals, helping the Mets avoid a three-game sweep. Bartolo Colon bounced back Saturday against the Nationals, tossing eight innings of two-run ball. Colon was shelled for seven runs -- six earned -- over 5 2/3 innings Monday against the Yankees. He had a much easier time on Saturday versus Washington, allowing just five hits and one walk over his eight impressive frames. He'll carry a 3-5 record, 5.34 ERA, and 1.34 WHIP into his next scheduled outing at home against the Diamondbacks. That ERA should drop soon.

Bartolo Colon was tagged for seven runs -- six earned -- in 5 2/3 innings by the Yankees on Monday. Most of the damage came on a Brett Gardner grand slam, just the third allowed by Colon in his long career. The previous ones were hit by Carlos Lee in 1999 and Alex Rodriguez in 2005. Colon also gave up three runs in the sixth, two of which were a result of Kelly Johnson's triple to the gap, a ball that likely would have been run down by Juan Lagares had he not been on the bench.
