Heaney allowed four runs on six hits, walking one and striking out three over four innings of a 15-7 win over the Nationals on Friday night.
He didn't pitch the required five innings to qualify for a win, but it was a lackluster outing anyway. The southpaw has struggled in his trials with the big club this season (he sports a 5.83 ERA) but he remains a top pitching prospect in an organization known for developing quality young starting pitching so he can't be overlooked as he progresses in his quest for a regular turn in the rotation.

Heaney will make his final start of the season for the Marlins in Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader against the Nationals, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.
The Marlins' top prospect will make his first big league start since July 5, but he has some familiarity with Washington after pitching three shutout innings against them out of the bullpen Sunday. Despite his struggles at the big league level, the 23-year-old lefty remains a very projectable talent, and it would not be surprising to see him shine in what will be his final action of the 2014 season. In four starts (20.2 innings) with Miami he has a 6.53 ERA and a 13:6 K:BB ratio. However, in 83.2 innings at Triple-A New Orleans he posted a 3.87 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 91 strikeouts, which highlights some of his future promise.

Heaney tossed 1.2 shutout innings of relief Tuesday in a loss to the Mets.
The top prospect allowed one hit and struck out two during his first major league action since being sent down in early July. He struggled to gain much traction during a brief stint in the bigs this year, posting a 6.53 ERA in four starts, but remained impressive during his time on the farm. Heaney registered a 3.28 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 143 strikeouts and just 43 walks over 137.1 frames across two minor-league levels this season and will compete for a sport in Miami's rotation next spring.

The Marlins recalled Heaney from Triple-A New Orleans on Tuesday, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.
The Marlins will bring back their top prospect for another go-around with the big league club. Heaney posted just a 6.53 ERA in four starts with the Marlins earlier this season, but given his pedigree and the 3.28 ERA he posted in the minors this season, he will likely be the top candidate to fill in should Henderson Alvarez (oblique) miss his next start.

Heaney, 23, has a 4.35 ERA and 61:11 K:BB ratio through 51.2 innings for Triple-A New Orleans.
Heeaney made four starts in the majors earlier this summer and was destroyed to the tune of a 6.53 ERA, sending him on the shuttle back to the minors. He hasn't been great since returning either, allowing 21 runs in six starts.

Marlins prospect LHP Andrew Heaney allowed one run on two hits in seven innings Tuesday while striking out eight batters for Triple-A New Orleans.
The highly touted left-hander walked two batters in the outing. Heaney, 23, struggled in his previous two starts following a demotion from the major leagues to Triple-A in early July, as he allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits (two home runs) in 6 2/3 innings. But now that he's back on track after Tuesday's outing, it shouldn't be long until Heaney receives another crack at the major leagues.

Marlins optioned LHP Andrew Heaney to Triple-A New Orleans.
Heaney was lit up for five earned runs in just 3 2/3 innings Saturday afternoon in St. Louis, watching his ERA climb to 6.53 ERA. The 23-year-old lefty is a big-time pitching prospect, but he'll head back to the farm to work a little more on his craft. Heaney can be dropped in standard fantasy leagues. He may still be worth stashing in deeper formats.

Andrew Heaney was tagged for five runs over just 3 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Cardinals on Saturday.
Heaney gave up five hits in the fourth inning (including back-to-back home runs to Allen Craig and Jhonny Peralta) before being pulled. He walked three and struck out just one batter. The rookie southpaw now owns a 6.53 ERA through four starts in the majors and has allowed at least four runs in each of his last three outings. The home run ball has really hurt him, as he has served up five longballs in just 20 2/3 innings of work. He still has a ton of promise, but those in mixed leagues should consider leaving him inactive until he begins to show improvement.

Andrew Heaney fell to 0-3, allowing four runs over six innings in Sunday's loss to the Athletics.
Heaney was mostly strong, blanking the A's over the first five innings. But the A's mounted a two-out rally in the sixth, singling three times in a row to drive in one run before Nate Freiman gave his club the lead with a three-run home run. Overall, Heaney allowed eight hits, walked none, and struck out four. The rookie lefty will carry a 5.29 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and a 12/3 K/BB ratio into his next start on the road against the Cardinals.

Andrew Heaney fell to 0-2 after allowing five runs over five innings in Tuesday's loss to the Phillies.
The Phillies were on top of Heaney early, scoring three times in the first inning and once more in the second. The lefty allowed four hits -- including Marlon Byrd's two-run home run in the first inning -- while walking two and striking out five. A consensus top prospect, Heaney has a 4.91 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP and an 8/3 K/BB ratio over his first two starts. He has a tough task ahead of him, as he will match up against the Athletics at home in his next start.
