Heaney (2-2) allowed four runs on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings while taking a loss against the Cubs on Tuesday. He did not record a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
Heaney worked through three scoreless frames before things turned south. Carson Kelly knocked a two-run shot in the fourth inning, and Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a two-run homer in the fifth. Heaney had given up just one home run through 31.1 innings entering Tuesday's outing. His shortest start of the season bumped his ERA up to 2.50 with a 31:9 K:BB through 36 innings. Heaney is lined up to face the Padres at home this weekend.

Heaney (2-1) earned the win Wednesday against the Angels, allowing one hit and zero walks while striking out nine batters across six shutout innings.
EDGE Analysis
Heaney's bid for a no-hitter was broken up by a Travis d'Arnaud double in the fifth inning, but the southpaw managed to close out the inning without allowing a run to score. Wednesday's performance gives Heaney 13.1 consecutive shutout frames and a 13:2 K:BB across his last two starts. He's due for a test during his next outing, however, which is tentatively scheduled to come at home against the Cubs, who boast the highest OPS (.806) of any team in the majors.

Heaney (1-1) earned the win Thursday against the Nationals after giving up five hits and two walks over 7.1 scoreless innings. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
The left-hander generated just nine swinging strikes on 95 pitches but scattered four singles and a double to pick up his first win of the campaign. Heaney surrendered four runs during his previous start in Cincinnati, but he's otherwise been dominant so far this season with a 2.13 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 22:6 K:BB across 25.1 innings.

Heaney (0-1) took the loss Saturday against the Reds, allowing four runs on three hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
All of the damage against Heaney came in the fourth inning Saturday. The left-hander would hit back-to-back batters with two outs before Elly De La Cruz launched a grand slam on a 3-2 pitch. While Heaney would turn in a solid outing otherwise, the Pirates couldn't overcome the early 4-0 deficit, sticking him with his first loss. The 33-year-old Heaney now has a 3.00 ERA with a 0.89 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB through his first three starts (18 innings) with Pittsburgh. He'll look to get in the win column in his next outing, currently lined up for next week against Washington.

Heaney did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Yankees, allowing one run on five hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts over seven innings.
EDGE Analysis
Heaney shook off a first-inning run to follow with six scoreless frames, generating 16 swinging strikes on 100 total pitches in the game. He certainly pitched well enough to earn his first win of the season, but the Pirates' bullpen squandered a three-run lead in the ninth. On the year, the veteran southpaw owns a 1.50 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB across 12 innings and lines up for a road matchup with the Reds next weekend.

Heaney took a no-decision Sunday against the Marlins. He struck out two over five innings while allowing one run on four hits and a walk.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran southpaw was sharp in his first start of 2025, throwing 79 pitches and yielding a solitary run on a Nick Fortes double in the second inning. After inking a one-year deal with Pittsburgh on Feb. 20, Heaney had a shortened spring training, so was still stretching out in this appearance. This outing was a welcome sight, as he endured a brutal spring training, pitching to a 9.49 ERA and 1.86 WHIP over 12.1 innings. Heaney will look to keep his season on track in his upcoming start against a former team, the Yankees, at home next weekend.

Heaney agreed to a one-year deal with the Pirates on Thursday that includes $5 million with incentives, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Heaney enters 2025 having played the prior two seasons with Texas. For the Rangers, he recorded a 4.22 ERA across 66 games, 59 of which he started in. The southpaw will figure to slot into the backend of Pittsburgh's rotation, but may also find time in the bullpen. With Johan Oviedo coming off of Tommy John surgery, Heaney adds depth to the rotation.

Heaney did not factor into the decision in a win over the Angels on Saturday, allowing seven runs on 10 hits over four innings while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
Heaney struggled with his command from the jump, allowing multiple hits in three of his four innings of work, which led to the southpaw being tagged for a season-high seven runs on the night. It marked the first time in his last seven starts that he was unable to make it through five frames, while the 10 hits he surrendered also marked a season high. Heaney has given up at least three runs and at least one long ball in four consecutive outings to close out the season. He carries a 5.96 ERA in September to go along with a 26:4 K:BB.

Heaney allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Heaney didn't get any run support while he was in the game, but the Rangers rallied for five runs over the sixth and seventh innings to help the southpaw avoid the loss. He's allowed seven runs over 10.2 innings in back-to-back starts versus the Mariners. Heaney is now at a 3.98 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 156:41 K:BB through 156 innings over 31 appearances (30 starts). He's projected for one more outing on the road versus the Angels.

Heaney (5-14) took the loss Sunday against the Mariners, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three over five innings.
EDGE Analysis
All three runs against Heaney came in the opening frame when Mitch Garver crushed a first-pitch fastball out to center field. Heaney had to work around some traffic on the bases in the second, third and fifth innings but ultimately held the Mariners scoreless after the three-run first. The seven hits allowed were the most by Heaney since he allowed seven on July 26 and he's now given up a home run in back-to-back starts. He's also lost to Seattle in all three meetings this year. For the season, Heaney owns a 3.89 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 152:40 K:BB in 150.1 innings. He lines up to face the Mariners again at home over the weekend.
