Alex Gonzalez (knee) is making steady strides in his rehab and has a slight chance of returning this season.
"He's ahead of schedule, so I don't want to say no," manager Ron Roenicke told reporters on Wednesday when asked if Gonzalez might make it back in 2012. "He's probably got an appointment in a couple weeks, and if the doctor says he's ready to go, then we'll have to rethink what we're doing." Gonzalez underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee back in mid-May.

An MRI taken Monday on the right knee of Brewers shortstop Alex Gonzalez revealed a torn ACL.
Gonzalez suffered the injury Saturday while sliding into second base. He will undergo a week of treatment before considering surgery. It's quite possible that the veteran shortstop will miss the rest of the 2012 season. Left only with Cesar Izturis to fill in, Brewers management may seek an early trade.

Brewers placed SS Alex Gonzalez on the 15-day disabled list with a right knee injury.
Gonzalez suffered the knee injury Saturday while sliding into second base on a stolen base attempt. The Brewers are waiting until the swelling subsides to put him through an MRI but are already resigned to the fact that he's going to be out a while. Carlos Gomez (hamstring strain) was also placed on the disabled list Saturday. Look for Cesar Izturis to handle starting shortstop duties.

Alex Gonzalez suffered a right knee injury sliding into second base on a steal attempt in Saturday's game.
He's heading for an MRI of the knee, with Brewers officials admitting that it doesn't sound good. Given the injuries to Mat Gamel, Gonzalez and Carlos Gomez this week alone, expect the Brewers to recall reinforcements from Triple-A before Sunday's game.

Alex Gonzalez was removed from Saturday's game in the second inning after injuring his right ankle sliding into second base.
No word yet on the extent or severity of the injury, but it didn't look promising. The Brewers already had to deal with the loss of Mat Gamel due to an ACL injury this week, if Gonzalez is out for any serious length of time it would be another crushing blow. Cesar Izturis came in to pinch run for Gonzalez, and would likely see the majority of the time at shortstop in Gonzalez' absence. We'll keep you updated as soon as more is known on this situation.
