Alex Gonzalez went 3-for-4 and scored three times against the Dodgers on Friday.
He was good tonight, but the Brewers have hurt themselves a bunch by failing to come up with a better stopgap than Gonzalez for first base. He's started 17 games so far and hit .186 with one homer.

Alex Gonzalez has been diagnosed with a left hand contusion after being hit by a pitch during Friday's game.
X-rays came back negative, which has the Brewers' breathing a sigh of relief after all of the injuries they have had to deal with in the infield. He should be considered day-to-day, but seems like he'll avoid a trip to the disabled list.

Alex Gonzalez has been removed from Friday's game after getting hit on the hand by a pitch in the second inning.
Gonzalez remained in the game for a few innings before eventually coming out. Yuniesky Betancourt moved over to third base and Blake Lalli took over at first base. The Brewers can ill-afford another injury in the infield, so hopefully this turns out to be only a minor issue.

Alex Gonzalez is expected to be the Brewers' Opening Day first baseman.
All 1,903 of Gonzalez's games as a professional have come as a shortstop, but the Brewers are lacking options following the knee injuries to Corey Hart and Mat Gamel. The veteran infielder admits to not feeling comfortable at the position yet. "I can tell you it's not easy," he said. "You have to move around. It's totally different (from shortstop). I try to make adjustments and relax and let things happen. I'm doing the best I can."

According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, the Dodgers pursued Alex Gonzalez this offseason to play third base, before he eventually signed with the Brewers.
The idea would have been for Gonzalez to play some third base, and to "push" shortstop Hanley Ramirez. This could mean that the Dodgers aren't entirely confident that Luis Cruz can handle the hot corner for the entire season.

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Saturday that he wants Alex Gonzalez to get some work in a first base, potentially serving as the backup to Mat Gamel there until Corey Hart is ready to return from the DL.
In his 14-year career, Gonzalez has played exclusively at shortstop, but could be able to make the transition defensively. It would also be a way to get his powerful bat in the lineup more often, especially against tough left-handers.

Brewers signed INF Alex Gonzalez to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported last week that Gonzalez could earn an additional $1 million with incentives. The soon-to-be 36-year-old appeared in just 24 games last season prior to undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. He's expected to function as a backup to 22-year-old Jean Segura.

Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writes that the Brewers have a "standing offer" to Alex Gonzalez.
The Brewers would like to bring back Gonzalez, who missed most of 2012 with a torn ACL, as a backup to Jean Segura. "His agent has been very forthright that he's not going to take anything that would indicate he'd be a backup until he exhausts the opportunities to play every day," said assistant genera manager Gord Ash. "I can't blame him." The Cardinals have also expressed interest in Gonzalez.

FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi hears that the Cardinals are looking for utility infielder help and have discussed Alex Gonzalez.
The Cards have also considered Chris Getz and Steve Lombardozzi as trade options. Gonzalez was limited to just 24 games in 2012 due to a torn ACL but is expected to be ready to go for spring training. He would give the Cards some insurance for Rafael Furcal (elbow).
