Lecavalier (foot) was placed on injured reserve Friday, CSNPhilly.com's Sarah Baicker reports. Lecavalier returned to practice Friday for the first time since suffering the injury Oct. 11. Because he's already missed over a week of action, the Flyers will be able to stash Lecavalier on injured reserve retroactively. Lecavalier looks on track to play at some point next week, perhaps as early as Tuesday against the Kings.

Lecavalier (foot) said he will most realistically return to action next Thursday against the Lightning, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Lecavalier was able to skate on his own prior to Friday's session and could be cleared to resume practicing with the team over the next couple of days. While he didn't rule out a return to action as early as Tuesday against the Kings, it seems more likely that he'll first be up to full speed Thursday, when the Flyers will take on his former squad. Philadelphia could still retroactively stash Lecavalier on injured reserve over the weekend in order to add an extra forward, but because he's already missed more than the minimum seven days, he'll be eligible for activation as soon as the Flyers deem him ready.

Though the fact that he's back on the ice creates some optimism, Lecavalier likely won't be cleared for a return to the Flyers lineup until next Tuesday at the earliest. Once he's ready to go, he'll likely reclaim the center spot on the second- or third-line, plunging Pierre-Edouard Bellemare down the depth chart.

After a poor 2013-14 and a quiet game in the opener, it's good for fantasy owners and Flyers fans alike to see Lecavalier put up some offense. But at age 34, 1998's first overall pick is definitely in decline, so don't expect games like this to become a trend.

After ending the season being benched in the final period of the game seven playoff loss to the Rangers, Flyers Center Vincent Lecavalier said he is optimistic about his opportunities this season, reports Tim Panaccio of CSN Philadelphia. Lecavalier was even more enthusiastic about this season after learning that Flyers Coach Craig Berube plans to start him at center, his natural position. Last season, Berube experimented with placing Lecavalier in several different spots on several different lines. While some renewed eagerness and consistency will certainly benefit the aging center, don't forget that he is just that -- an aging center.

Vincent Lecavalier isn't likely to be traded to Ottawa. He has four years left on a contract that carries a cap hit of $4.5 million per season. The Senators would want Philadelphia to retain $2 million per season, but the Flyers aren't keen on doing that. Ottawa may also want to send another unfavorable contract back Philadelphia's way, but that wouldn't fit the Flyers' agenda because they are trying to clear cap space. A deal between the two sides isn't believed to be close and Lecavalier's no-trade clause could halt the move anyway.

The Philadelphia Flyers were reportedly very close to trading center Vincent Lecavalier to Nashville Monday. The terms of the proposed deal are not known, but it's being reported that the Predators were very close to taking on the next two years of a deal that pays the forward for two more beyond that, but the pact hit a snag and the deal fell through. It's no secret that Philly would like to rid itself of the veteran forward in order to create much-needed cap space, but they have yet to find any takers.

The Philadelphia Flyers were unable to unload Vincent Lecavalier at the draft. The Flyers really want to rid themselves of Lecavalier's onerous contract as he is still owed $18 million over the next four years with a no-movement clause. A buyout is the most logical step as the Flyers are currently over the salary cap and it is unlikely that any NHL team will help them out. Look for Lecavalier to be looking for a new home by Tuesday which is the start of free agency. Lecavalier had 20 goals and 37 points in 69 games with a terrible minus-16 rating and chipped in with a goal and an assist in seven playoff games against the Rangers.
