Travis Zajac has begun doing physical therapy in his recovery from a torn left Achilles tendon. "He's still on the same schedule," GM Lou Lamoriello said. "In fact, he's progressing really well. I talked to him the other day and everything is on schedule. He's walking. He's doing the rehab he has to so do." The worst-case scenario for his return is some time after New Year's, according to Lamoriello, but for now the Devils are sticking with their original timetable of three months following his surgery on Aug. 18.

Travis Zajac's (Achilles) return to action may be longer than the three months originally forecast. Zajac underwent surgery to repair a torn left Achilles tendon on August 18th and the original prognosis was a three month recovery but it may be as long as four-six months depending on the recovery time. "It depends on the athlete and the person, but from guys I've talked to with the injury that (three months) seems like a reasonable timeframe for some guys and some guys were a little longer," Zajac said. "Hopefully, if things progress well (he'll be back in three months). I was told it's the rehab that is the key part that's going to get you back the quickest." It will be hard to take Zajac this season as he may not be able to return until January or February, although once he does, he should line up alongside Zach Parise and Ilya Kovalchuk on the Devils' top line.

Travis Zajac will reportedly be out for three months after having surgery to repair a torn left Achilles tendon. He underwent the procedure on Thursday morning his hometown of Winnipeg. He suffered the injury while doing plyometrics during some off-ice training on Wednesday. "He'll be in a cast for a week and then he'll be in a walking boot right after that," GM Lou Lamoriello said. "Then, it's the healing process, which takes around three months." Zajac is slated to center one of New Jersey's top two lines this season and he has had chemistry with returning sniper Zach Parise in the past, so this is a big blow to the Devils and to perspective fantasy owners. We'll keep you posted on his recovery.
