Krug -- who earned $3.4 million in 2015-16 -- is slated to become a restricted free agent July 1, though we suspect that retaining the blueliner for the long haul will be an offseason priority for the Bruins.

If Krug does have to undergo a shoulder procedure, it would presumably keep him from playing for Team USA in the upcoming world championships, though there's nothing to suggest that his status for the start of the 2016-17 season is in any question. Moreover, a balky shoulder could well have contributed to the career-worst 1.6 percent shooting percentage that Krug logged en route to notching just four goals on 244 shots in 81 games this past season. The mobile blueliner did, however, chip in a career-high 40 assists in that span.

Krug racked up 244 shots on the season for the B's, a figure that placed him third on the team behind only Patrice Bergeron (282) and Brad Marchand (250) in that category. With a few more bounces in his favor, Krug could have easily hit double-figures in goals for the third straight year, but he was nonetheless a key cog in the team's attack, with his mobility and prowess in the transition game continuing to be assets to the Bruins. Krug, who is about to turn 25, earned $3.4 million in salary in 2015-16 and is now set to become a restricted free agent this offseason. With that in mind, we suspect that retaining the blueliner for the long haul will be a priority for the team.

Not only did he have two assists, but Krug used the man advantage to score his fourth goal of the season Thursday night, helping the Bruins to a crucial 5-2 win over the Red Wings.

Krug careened the puck from the point past Jimmy Howard, padding the lead for the B's in the second period. Yes, that was a rare goal from the diminutive rearguard, but he does have 40 helpers on the year. That level of production is bound to cause Krug to fly off draft boards next season.

With Sunday's points, the 24-year-old now has 41 for the season -- a new carer high. He's been very good at dishing the puck, but has just three goals on the season. That's a surprising number, given the fact that he's taken a career-high 237 shots this season. Krug continues to be a solid fantasy producer from the blue line.

While Krug has only managed thee goals this season, a disappointing number for a defenseman who is an "offense first" player, he now has 36 assists on the season, and three in his last three games.

Krug provided a secondary assist Tuesday night in a 1-0 overtime win over the Lightning.

Seventy-five shots were fired in this intense goalie battle between Ben Bishop of the Bolts and B's goalie Jonas Gustavsson, so that clearly was the story of the game. However, Krug still found time to put up his 30th helper of the year, setting the table with Patrice Bergeron for the eventual winner by who else? Brad Marchand, the team leader with 34 goals. Krug is an attractive fantasy option since he pours on the points - he has four in the last five games, Krug also averages 3:19 of ice time on the man advantage, amassing 13 helpers on the power play this campaign.

Krug picked up two assists -- one on the power play -- to go with a plus-2 rating Thursday in a 4-2 win over Chicago.

EDGE Analysis

The Michigander has done nothing but put up points lately, as he's racked up seven helpers in the last seven games. However, his goal-scoring remains absent -- he hasn't found the net in 39 straight games, a period during which he's fired 113 shots on goal. After scoring 14 and 12 goals the last two seasons, he's still stuck on three for 2015-16, although Krug's rock-bottom shooting percentage offers the tantalizing prospect of an imminent course correction, especially considering the run he's been on.

Krug tallied an assist and skated to a game-high plus-3 in a 5-1 win over the Penguins.

The assist marked the third straight game that Krug has recorded a point, bringing his season total to 28 in 60 games this year. Wednesday's showing was particularly impressive for he and the B's, as all five of their goals came despite not having a single power play in the game. The American rearguard has recorded 39 and 40 points in the last two seasons and is on pace for 38 this year, so he'll need to heat up just a tad if he hopes to set a new career high by mid-April.

At first glance, it looked like the B's first goal of the night might go to Krug, which would have ended his 33-game drought without a tally, but in fact Krug's shot from the blue line deflected off teammate Loui Eriksson. Krug's next chance to snap his goal-less streak will arrive Wednesday when the Bruins take on the Penguins at home. On the plus side, Krug, who was forced out of Saturday's win over the Stars with what appeared to be a right arm or shoulder issue, did not appear limited at all on Monday.
