DeAngelo's a puck-moving blueliner who isn't afraid to play with an edge, as illustrated by his 37 PIM through 26 appearances. That's an enticing combination for dynasty and keeper formats, but DeAngelo's present-day value is tanked by coach David Quinn's lack of trust in the 23-year-old blueliner's defensive game, which is why DeAngelo has played less than 15 minutes in each of his past three appearances.

DeAngelo recorded a minus-3 rating and picked up the game's lone penalty on a roughing minor in Thursday's 3-0 loss to the Senators.

EDGE Analysis

It was an especially forgettable night for DeAngelo, but most of his teammates weren't much better. While the puck-moving blueliner is prone to the occasional mistake in his own zone, he still owns a plus-3 rating even after Thursday's debacle and has earned a regular spot in the lineup for the most part thanks to eight points in 17 games.

With Adam McQuaid (lower body) out of the lineup, DeAngelo got the opportunity to play in what was only his third game of the 2018-19 season. The young blueliner now has four points on the year, thanks to Sunday's two-point performance, and will remain in the lineup so long as McQuaid remains unfit to play.

DeAngelo would be the logical choice to rejoin the lineup should teammate Adam McQuaid (lower body) be forced to miss any time.

The Rangers took a chance on DeAngelo by bringing him in prior to last season in the trade that sent Derek Stepan to Arizona. Despite questions about effort and off-ice issues in his past, the 2014 first-rounder appeared to be coming into his own late last season before an ankle injury knocked him out. He's only managed to crack new coach David Quinn's game-day lineup twice this season, but New York's unwillingness to expose DeAngelo to waivers by sending him down to the AHL suggests the club still believes in him. Having just turned 23 years old on Oct. 24, the offensive-minded blueliner could get an opportunity Sunday against the Kings and beyond if the injury McQuaid suffered Thursday keeps the veteran sidelined.

A season ago, DeAngelo played 32 games with the Rangers, tallying eight points in those contests. Sunday's game was his 2018-19 debut and DeAngelo performed admirably, picking up two assists and finishing a plus-1 despite his team having yielded eight goals in defeat. Despite the noteworthy performance, DeAngelo figures to be in and out of the Rangers lineup this season, making him irrelevant to fantasy owners.

DeAngelo missed the final 12 games of last season with this injury. When he has, he's shown that he can at least do some damage on the power play, and he might get the opportunity for the Rangers this year.
