Tomas Vokoun allowed four goals on 31 shots and suffered a 4-3 overtime loss to the Lightning Tuesday.
The team is clearly missing the contributions of their top players and Vokoun is suffering the consequences. He's a good enough goaltender to bounce back before the season is out.

Tomas Vokoun turned aside 30 shots but was outshone by the goalie on the other side, Cam Ward, as the Washington Capitals took a 3-0 loss to the Hurricanes in Carolina Friday night.
Washington had won four of its past five games and entered 8-0-1 in its past nine against Carolina. But, despite Vokoun's excellence, the Capitals couldn't get a puck past the red-hot Ward. The Caps were 0-for-3 on the power play. It was Vokoun's 11th start in 12 games.

Tomas Vokoun will be between the pipes for Washington on Friday night versus Carolina.
Coach Dale Hunter told Vokoun that he would start prior to Michal Neuvirth's shutout over Montreal on Wednesday. Hunter said he felt good about his decision because he doesn't want to overwork Neuvirth, who hasn't seen much action lately and faced plenty of shots (31) against the Canadiens. Vokoun will make his 11th start in 12 games for the Capitals.

Tomas Vokoun allowed three goals on 28 shots in the Capitals' 3-0 shutout defeat at the hands of the New York Islanders Tuesday.
Vokoun's win streak is snapped at three with the loss, but his play of late has been superb nonetheless. With 10 consecutive starts under his belt, there's little question about who the number one goaltender is in Washington.

When he takes his place in the crease tonight at home against the Islanders, it will mark Tomas Vokoun's tenth straight start.
The last time a Capitals goalie started 10 straight games? It was Olie Kolzig in the pre-lockout campaign of 2003-04. Tonight, Vokoun will attempt to stretch his winning streak to four and make it eight wins in his last nine outings. He's had a couple of shaky outings during his streak of starts, most notably a 5-2 clunker at L.A. last Monday when he was pulled after having allowed four goals in two periods. Still, Vokoun has a 2.30 GAA and .931 save percentage since the calendar flipped to 2012. On the season, he is 19-10-0, 2.52 and .918.

Tomas Vokoun made 43 out of 44 saves to get his 19th win of the season.
It seems like Vokoun is starting to grab hold of the starting job in Washington after struggling mightily through most of the first half of the 2011-12 season. In fact, if you ever wanted to acquire him via a trade, this might be a good time to do it - if you think you can trick an opposing fantasy owner.

After a rough patch Tomas Vokoun appears to have settled into the No. 1 goaltending spot in Washington.
Vokoun undoubtably entered the season as the Capitals starting goaltender and for the first time since the days of Olaf Kolzig, Washington will boast an established true number-one goalie."It?Ts easier, especially on a goalie, when you can play" regularly, Vokoun said. "It?Ts obviously a little easier on your mental state of mind when you know you?Tre going to play, even if you make a mistake. But saying that, this is a performance business, and if you don?Tt perform, they?Tre going to put in somebody else." The veteran netminder is expected to make a ninth straight start on Sunday. "Tomas has been solid and his numbers show it since I?Tve been here," Caps coach Dale Hunter said.

Tomas Vokoun will get the call in goal for Washington on Sunday against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The game against Carolina will be Vokoun's ninth start in a row; he is 6-2 with a 1.90 GAA and a .938 save pct. in his last nine games (eight starts). Lifetime against Carolina, Vokoun is 12-10-1 with two shutouts, a 2.81 GAA and a .915 save pct. He should be started with confidence against the lowly Hurricanes and should also reach the 30-win milestone for the first time since 2007-08.
