Mason saved just 20 of 25 shots during a loss to the Coyotes on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Through his first three seasons with the Flyers, Mason posted a solid .921 save percentage and 2.43 GAA. But it's been a rough start to 2016-17, as the veteran goalie has allowed at least two goals in each outing and three or more in four of his five starts. It's worth noting that scoring is up across the league, and over the course of the season, Mason's numbers should stabilize. However, in the short term, it isn't out of the question to be more selective with who you start Mason against in all fantasy formats.

Mason will start in the crease Thursday night against the visiting Coyotes, Jordan Hall of CSN Philly reports.
EDGE Analysis
Counting his relief work in place of a struggling Michal Neuvirth on Tuesday, Mason will be making his seventh consecutive appearance between the pipes. The issue for the Flyers in the early going has been the inexperience on the blue line; guys like Ivan Provorov and Shayne Gostisbehere have immense offensive potential, but neither youngster has a positive rating through seven games this campaign. Mason carries a 2-3-1 record, 2.77 GAA and .901 save percentage into Thursday's contest, making it difficult to rely on him in most fantasy formats.

Mason made eight saves in relief Tuesday before earning a shootout win over the Sabres.
EDGE Analysis
After Michal Neuvirth gave up three goals on 17 shots, he was yanked in favor of Mason, who appeared in his sixth straight game. The Flyers buckled down defensively in front of him -- his eight shots against came in nearly 30 minutes of play -- and charged back with three goals in the third period before prevailing in the shootout. Despite having four wins now on the young season, Mason hasn't been spectacular, as his 2.77 GAA and .901 save percentage will attest.

Mason saved 30 of 32 shots during a loss to the Canadiens on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Despite the loss, this was Mason's best outing of the season, as both goals he allowed were deflections. Through his previous three seasons with Philadelphia, Mason posted an impressive .921 save percentage with a 74-55-28 record, so expect his strong outing on Monday to be a sign of things to come.

Mason gets the starting nod against the Canadiens on Monday, Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason will be in goal coming off his first win of the season, despite registering his fourth straight game with a GAA above 3.00. The Flyers are currently averaging 3.80 goals per game, a trend which may need to continue in order to overcome the netminder's early season struggles. Fortunately for the 28-year-old, backup Michal Neuvirth has not fared much better, as he's allowed six goals in two appearances, and is showing no signs of overtaking Mason for the starting role.

Mason made 27 saves Saturday for his first win of the season in a 6-3 victory over the Hurricanes.
EDGE Analysis
The Canes were the perfect antidote for the struggling Mason. He's now 1-3 and has only allowed two or fewer goals once this season. Mason has a long leash in Philly, but those fans get restless -- he'll need to get the stink out of his game soon. But scoring is up all over the NHL and Mason (and his owners) may need to settle for lower than expected stats. That won't be unique to Mason, but he's the classic average netminder whose numbers will take a hit because of the firepower in the league.

Mason will tend twine as Saturday's home starter against the Hurricanes, Wayne Fish of the Courier Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason took losses in his first three starts, but rest assured that he's got a long leash. With the average annual value of his contract at $4.1 million, the Flyers are paying him far too much to let him toil away as an infrequently used backup.

Mason allowed three goals on 26 shots in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Ducks.
EDGE Analysis
Mason is win-less with a 3.46 GAA and .875 save percentage in two starts and three appearances, while Michael Neuvirth has an even uglier 4.24 GAA and .857 save percentage. The two should continue to see roughly equal shares of the work in net with both doing their best to hand the other the starting job early on.

Mason will defend the cage Thursday against the Ducks, Bill Meltzer of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mason gets the start after making a relief appearance for fellow netminder Michal Neuvirth on Tuesday. With the starting job up for grabs in Philadelphia, it is unclear whether this was a scheduled start for Mason or the result of Neuvirth's struggles. Until coach Dave Hakstol names a starter, season-long fantasy owners may want to avoid utilizing Mason.

Mason came on in relief of a struggling Michal Neuvirth on Tuesday against the Blackhawks, but he struggled as well, coughing up a pair of goals on 11 shots and taking a loss.
EDGE Analysis
One cannot place the blame solely on Mason (or Neuvirth for that matter), as the Flyers have a rather young defensive corps learning the nuances of a tough position. Still, Mason has allowed six goals on 46 shots between his opening-night start against the Coyotes last Saturday, and now this latest relief dud. Given the goalie platoon and the Flyers' struggling defense, it's best to look past Mason unless your league runs deep.
