Varlamov will start for the Islanders in their first game at UBS Arena versus the Flames on Saturday, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
This will be the third start of the season for Varlamov, who comes into the game 0-2-0 with a 2.50 GAA and .893 save percentage. The Islanders are amidst a significant COVID outbreak with no less than five regulars on the protocols list. Those players are Josh Bailey, Anders Lee, Anthony Beauvillier, Adam Pelech and Andy Greene. Throw in Ryan Pulock, who is out for at least a month with a lower-body injury, and that's half the starting defensemen for the Isles that won't play Saturday. This is not the way the Islanders envisioned opening up their new arena.

Varlamov stopped 17 of 19 shots after replacing Ilya Sorokin to begin the second period of Tuesday's 6-1 loss to the Panthers.
EDGE Analysis
While it certainly wasn't a strong effort from the veteran netminder, it was better than what Sorokin managed. Varlamov has a shaky 3.40 GAA and .893 save percentage in three appearances since missing the first few weeks of the season with an undisclosed injury, but he will likely continue to work in a timeshare for the Isles as he rounds back into form.

Varlamov allowed four goals on 28 shots in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Lightning.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov has started two of the Islanders' last three games, but he's taken losses in both appearances. He's allowed seven goals on 65 shots -- it's possible he's still shaking off the rust after missing most of the first month of the season. Performance-wise, Ilya Sorokin has earned better than a 50-50 split of playing time, but head coach Barry Trotz has often evenly divided the workload between his netminders during his tenure with the Isles. Expect Sorokin to start Tuesday against the Panthers.

Varlamov will patrol the crease for Monday's game in Tampa Bay, Brian Compton of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov allowed three goals on 37 shots and took a loss against the Wild in his only appearance so far this season. The veteran netminder posted an outstanding 2.04 GAA and .929 save percentage in 36 games last season. Now that he's healthy, Varlamov and Ilya Sorokin will likely be splitting starts more regularly.

Varlamov allowed three goals on 37 shots in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Wild. The last two goals were empty-netters.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov was busier than his goaltending opponent Kaapo Kahkonen at the other end of the ice. Despite the loss, it was a solid showing for Varlamov in his season debut after he missed time with an undisclosed injury. Unfortunately for the 33-year-old, Ilya Sorokin cemented the No. 1 job in Varlamov's absence, although head coach Barry Trotz has rarely hesitated to create a timeshare in the crease in past seasons. Neither goalie will be a great option in weekly leagues -- the Islanders only play once in the next seven days, Thursday versus the Devils.

Varlamov will start Sunday's game in Minnesota, Neil Best of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
After dealing with an undisclosed injury for the duration of the campaign, Varlamov will make his season debut against the Wild. Ilya Sorokin has been nothing short of spectacular while Varlamov has been out, reeling off a 1.98 GAA and .939 save percentage in nine starts, so Varlamov will need to be sharp to have a chance at competing for meaningful crease time.

Varlamov will start for the first time this season either Saturday or Sunday, Neil Best of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Coach Barry Trotz stated earlier Saturday that Varlamov would start one of the two games for the Islanders this weekend. The Islanders are in Winnipeg on Saturday before traveling to Minnesota for a game Sunday. Varlamov has yet to play this year due to soreness from the Islanders' playoff run last season. He has been ready to play for approximately a week but has had to wait for an opportunity, as Ilya Sorokin has been lights out for the Islanders in the crease. If Varlamov were to struggle in his start this weekend, his next chance to play might not come until the Islanders play back-to-back games Nov. 15 and 16 in Florida.

Varlamov (undisclosed) was activated from injured reserve Tuesday, per CapFriendly.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov's activation indicates he'll be an option to start in goal Saturday versus the Predators, although Ilya Sorokin will be well-rested after posting consecutive shutouts versus the Coyotes and Golden Knights. Head coach Barry Trotz employed a fairly even split between Varlamov and Sorokin last year, but it remains to be seen if that will resume in 2021-22.

Varlamov (undisclosed) won't be available for Saturday's game against Arizona or Sunday's match versus Vegas, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov has been practicing with the Islanders of late, so it seems likely that he'll be an option for next Saturday's game against the Predators. Ilya Sorokin will continue to operate as the Isles' No. 1 netminder until Varlamov is ready to make his season debut.

Varlamov (undisclosed) won't be in the lineup against Columbus on Thursday but could return to action versus the Coyotes or Golden Knights on Saturday or Sunday, respectively, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov appears to be getting closer to making his 2021-22 season debut. Once cleared to play, the 33-year-old netminder should see the bulk of the workload for the Isles, though Ilya Sorokin will certainly be in the mix for regular starts outside of just back-to-backs.
