Varlamov stopped 22 of 24 shots Wednesday in a 3-2 overtime win over Tampa Bay in Game 6.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov rebounded nicely after being yanked early in Monday's Game 5 drubbing, this time keeping the game within striking distance despite Tampa Bay' building a 2-0 lead. Brayden Point's first-period backhander from in tight and Anthony Cirelli's breakaway goal in the middle frame were the only blemishes on Varlamov's box score, as the 33-year-old improved to 7-6 in the postseason with a 2.74 GAA and .919 save percentage. He'll be right back between the pipes for Game 7 on Friday.

Varlamov is expected to start Wednesday's Game 6 home clash with Tampa Bay, per Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov will retake his place between the pipes after getting the hook in Game 5 after conceding three goals on just 16 shots. The Bolts piled on another five goals on relief netminder Ilya Sorokin, which no doubt factored into coach Barry Trotz's decision to stick with Varlamov.

Varlamov allowed three goals on 16 shots before being replaced by Ilya Sorokin in an 8-0 loss to Tampa Bay in Game 5 on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov was left and high and dry right from the jump. Tampa Bay's first goal come on a bad bounce in front of the Islanders' net, but the next two were the direct result of New York turnovers. Although none of the goals could be pinned directly on Varlamov, he was replaced by Ilya Sorokin with 4:23 still to play in the opening period. The 33-year-old Varlamov had held the Lighting to two goals or fewer in three of the first four games, but Monday's drubbing dropped his series save percentage to a middling .907. While no announcement had been made immediately following the game, look for the veteran to be back between the pipes Wednesday for Game 6.

Varlamov was the first goalie to exit the ice at Monday's game-day skate, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports, indicating he'll tend the twine on the road for Game 5 versus Tampa Bay.
EDGE Analysis
Considering Varlamov is sporting a .920 save percentage and 2.36 GAA in four matchups with the Lightning, it shouldn't come as a surprise to see him continuing to defend the cage over Ilya Sorokin. It figures to be another close contest between the two clubs given three of the first four games have been decided by one goal and the 33-year-old Varlamov will need to remain in peak form to give the Isles the chance to knock off the defending champions.

Varlamov kicked out 28 of 30 shots in a 3-2 win over Tampa Bay on Saturday in Game 4.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov held the Lighting off the board through two periods before Brayden Point and Tyler Johnson both struck in the first seven minutes of the third. Varlamov secured the victory with a major assist from defenseman Ryan Pulock, who made a goal-line stop on Tampa Bay's Ryan McDonagh just before the final buzzer with Varlamov caught well out of position. The netminder improved to 6-5 in the playoffs and maintained his .923 save percentage.

Varlamov is between the pipes for Game 4 against visiting Tampa Bay on Saturday, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov has fallen in back-to-back games after reeling off four straight victories that closed out Boston and gave the Islanders an early 1-0 series lead against the Lightning. With New York down 2-1, he'll need to be extra sharp to even the series with Game 5 looming back down in Tampa.

Varlamov stopped 23 of 25 shots in a 2-1 loss to Tampa Bay in Game 3 on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov was beaten by Yanni Gourde's sharp-angle shot to open the scoring midway through the first period, and Brayden Point notched the eventual game-winner with 20 seconds left in the second. Varlamov's teammates have yet to provide him with more than two goals in any game during the series, leaving the netminder with little margin for error. The 33-year-old dropped to 5-5 in the postseason despite his .923 save percentage.

Varlamov is between the pipes for Game 3 against Tampa on Thursday, Brian Compton of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov departed briefly in Game 2 on Tuesday after Brayden Point was cross-checked into him midway through the first period, but he returned in the period and clearly avoided injury. Despite allowing four goals on 27 shots in Game 2, Varlamov still makes for a fantastic play, as he'd rattled off four straight wins prior to that and put up a 2.06 GAA and .939 save percentage over a six-game, five-win span.

Varlamov allowed four goals on 27 shots in a 4-2 loss to Tampa Bay in Game 2 on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov missed the final 6:50 of the first period after a collision with Tampa Bay's Brayden Point but was back between the pipes to start the second. It's not yet known what the injury was, but Varlamov didn't appear to show any ill effects upon his return, stopping a Yanni Gourde short-handed breakaway chance shortly after re-entering the game. Varlamov had won his previous four starts prior to Tuesday and would presumably get the nod for Game 3 on Thursday if healthy.

Varlamov led the Islanders onto the ice to begin the second period against Tampa in Game 2 on Tuesday, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov left the contest in the first period after a collision with Brayden Point, but it appears the Islanders' goalie is fine to resume playing. Ilya Sorokin will return to the bench after making six saves while Varlamov was in the locker room.
