Varlamov was the first goalie to exit the ice at Tuesday's game-day skate, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports, indicating he'll guard the crease for Game 2 on the road against Tampa Bay.
EDGE Analysis
Considering Varlamov is coming off a 30-save victory in Game 1 over the Lightning, it shouldn't come as a surprise to see him continuing to patrol the blue paint. The 33-year-old Russian is 5-1 with a 2.06 GAA and .939 save percentage in his last six appearances, making him a fantastic play despite the tough road matchup.

Varlamov turned aside 30 of 31 shots Sunday in a 2-1 victory over Tampa Bay in Game 1.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov was 53 seconds away from a shutout when Tampa Bay's Brayden Point scored an extra-attacker goal from in tight to cut New York's lead to 2-1. It was the fourth straight victory for the veteran netminder, who boasts a sparkling .930 save percentage during the postseason and has turned in just one sub-.900 performance in eight starts. He'll undoubtedly be back between the pipes for Game 2 on Tuesday.

Varlamov will guard the road crease Sunday for Game 1 in Tampa Bay, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov won back the starting job from Ilya Sorokin in the second-round series win over Boston and closed that series out with three consecutive victories. A Varlamov win Sunday would make the Islanders just the third team in league history to have two separate goalies post four-game winning streaks in the same postseason, joining the 1972 Bruins and 1980 Flyers. Doing so won't be easy against a Lightning team that eliminated Varlamov and the Islanders at this stage of the playoffs last year. Overall, the Russian netminder's 4-3 with a 2.62 GAA and .925 save percentage this postseason.

Varlamov stopped 23 of 25 shots in a 6-2 win over Boston in Game 6 on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov closed out the series -- and the Bruins -- with his third consecutive win, allowing just a pair of Brad Marchand power-play goals. The 33-year-old won four of his five starts against Boston and logged an outstanding .936 save percentage in the series. He'll need to be at his best if the Islanders are to avenge last season's conference finals loss to Tampa Bay.

Varlamov will draw the home start for Wednesday's Game 6 matchup against Boston, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Russian has been one of the main reasons the Islanders have an opportunity to close out the series Wednesday, as he's gone 3-1-0 along with a 2.32 GAA and .936 save percentage in his past four starts. Barring a complete collapse to suspect play, Varlamov has edged himself ahead of fellow Russian Ilya Sorokin as the preferred No. 1 goaltender for the remainder of the playoffs.

Varlamov stopped 40 of 44 shots in Monday's 5-4 win over the Bruins in Game 5.
EDGE Analysis
Things got a little dicey in the third period when goals by Boston's David Pastrnak and David Krejci cut into New York's 5-2 lead, but Varlamov held on to help give the Islanders a 3-2 series advantage. The 33-year-old was sharp early in the game while the Bruins were all over the Isles, and although he gave up a goal to David Pastrnak just 1:25 in, Varlamov never allowed Boston to make it 2-0, which bought New York time to get settled. Varlamov owns a .925 save percentage in five postseason appearances heading into Game 6 on Wednesday.

Varlamov is starting Monday's Game 5 in Boston, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov has won two of his three starts in this series and limited Boston to just one goal on 29 shots in Game 4. After losing the starting job to Ilya Sorokin against the Penguins in the first round, Varlamov has reestablished himself as the top option in the Islanders' net.

Varlamov made 28 saves on 29 shots in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Bruins in Game 4.
EDGE Analysis
Varlamov surrendered a power-play goal to David Krejci in the second period, but the Islanders responded with four unanswered goals. The Russian goalie has now won two of his last three starts, helping the Islanders to even the second-round series at two games apiece. He seems to have regained the starting role from Ilya Sorokin, so Varlamov should be expected to start a pivotal Game 5 in Boston on Monday.

Varlamov will start Game 4 for the Islanders versus the Bruins on Saturday, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is not a surprise as Varlamov played well in the Isles 2-1 overtime loss to the Bruins on Thursday. Coach Barry Trotz stated Friday that he was planning on sticking with the same lineup for Saturday. One problem for Varlamov this postseason has been his tendency to give up an early goal, something he has done in four games. The Isles, however, will take the final result, which often puts them in a prime position to win the game.
