Darling (lower body) was taken off injured reserve and sent to AHL Charlotte for a conditioning assignment Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Darling is slated to start for the Checkers on Wednesday, which could have him available for Friday's matchup versus San Jose -- although it would seem more likely that he would slot into a backup role Friday and possible make his return to the crease against the Islanders on Sunday. With how well Curtis McElhinney has performed during Darling's absence -- a 3-1-0 record and 2.76 GAA -- he could replace Petr Mrazek as the No. 2 for the Hurricanes, but either way, Darling should be back to the No. 1 job once fully fit.

Darling (lower body) was assigned to AHL Charlotte for a conditioning stint, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports.
EDGE Analysis
This means Darling is healthy, but he needs to get back into shape before entering a game with the Hurricanes. Both goalies -- Petr Mrazek and Curtis McElhinney -- have been playing poorly, so Darling could earn a start in the near future.

Darling (lower body) is close to returning but told reporters he has yet to receive final clearance to play, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Darling continues to practice with his teammates, which is certainly a good sign, but remains sidelined indefinitely due to his lower-body issue. In the meantime, Petr Mrazek figures to see the bulk of the starts in Darling's stead.

Darling (lower body) skated Monday but there remains no official timetable for his return, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports.
EDGE Analysis
The update came from head coach, Rod Brind'Amour. The fact Darling has resumed skating is encouraging but he still appears a week or so away from returning to game action. Petr Mrazek and Curtis McElhinney will continue splitting crease time until Darling is deemed fit for action.

The Hurricanes placed Darling (lower body) on injured reserve Tuesday, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Darling is expected to miss at least "a couple weeks" due to a lower-body injury, so this move doesn't come as a surprise. Once healthy, the former Blackhawk is expected to take over as the Hurricanes' starter.

Darling (lower body) "will be out a couple weeks, for sure," Sara Civian of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Civian relayed this information from Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour. A previous reports from Tuesday indicated that Darlin's injury is minor, but that's evidently not the case. Petr Mrazek will now be the No. 1 starter in Carolina to open the 2018-19 season.

Darling (lower body) missed practice Tuesday, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Darling's injury is not considered serious, but he can ill-afford any setbacks after arguably being the biggest bust among fantasy goalies in 2017-18. The ink barely had time to dry on his four-year, $16.6 million contract with the Hurricanes before he put up a 13-21-7 record, 3.18 GAA and .888 save percentage over 43 games with the Raleigh-based club. The ratios were hideous, and it's conceivable that Petr Marazek could wrestle away the starting job from Darling in short order.

Darling (lower body) is not dealing with a long-term injury, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Specifically, the very involved owner of the Hurricanes, Tom Dundon, said that it's "not catastrophic." It is expected that they will know more about the injury by Tuesday, but unless the news is great, it seems likely Darling will miss at least the opener on Thursday. If that turns out to be true, Petr Mrazek will get the start against the Islanders.

Darling (lower body) left Sunday's preseason contest against Nashville and will not return, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Darling allowed three goals on 20 shots while playing just over half of Sunday's game. The 29-year-old is expected to be the No. 1 goaltender in Carolina this season, so any serious injury would be a huge blow. The team should have an update on the severity of the injury within the next day.
