The Senators are wisely calling up reinforcements with star wingers Mike Hoffman (lower body), Bobby Ryan (finger) and Mark Stone (neck) all injured ahead of an important divisional clash with the Panthers on Sunday evening. Calling up Varone was a no-brainer, as he leads the Baby Sens with 38 points (13 goals, 25 assists) in 48 games.

The 2009 fifth-round pick has proven to be a playmaker with AHL Binghamton (six goals and 17 helpers in 21 contests last year), but has yet to stick in the NHL.

Varone signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Senators on Friday.
