Varone, the Sabres' new No. 1 center, wants to show the team what he can do, reports the Olean Times Herald.
Varone skated on the Sabres' top line in a 3-0 shutout loss against the Lightning and will remain as the team's No. 1 center for the foreseeable future. Varone was leading AHL Rochester in scoring when he was called up and centered a line with Matt Moulson and Tyler Ennis on the wings. The trio could provide some magic offensively with Varone and Ennis complimenting each other as skill players with Moulson serving as the shooter. The Sabres called up Mikhail Grigorenko on Thursday and will serve as the No. 2 center. Grigorenko and Varone will be tasked to carry the Sabres offense until the end of the season. Varone has two goals in 10 games this season.

Varone skated on the Sabres' top line Tuesday against Tampa Bay.
Varone played 19:01, a season-high, although he didn't register a point in the 3-0 shutout loss. Varone was AHL Rochester's leading scorer when he was called up and after toiling in the minors for the past two years, his hard work has paid off. He registered two shots on net and will continue to serve as the team's No. 1 centerman with Zemgus Girgensons (fractured ankle) sidelined. The Sabres don't score much but if they do, Varone should be in line for some points. He has two goals in 10 NHL games this season.

The Sabres recalled Varone on Thursday, the team's official site reports.
Along with Varone, fellow forward Zac Dalpe was recalled from AHL Rochester, moves made with injuries to Zemgus Girgensons and Tyler Ennis in mind. Varone, who has recorded two goals in seven NHL games this season, currently leads Rochester in scoring with 43 points in 52 games.

Varone played just 50 seconds in the third period against Philadelphia on Saturday.
Varone and Cody Hodgson were in head coach Ted Nolan's doghouse Saturday, each playing just 50 seconds in the final frame. Varone had a two-goal game earlier this season but his play has fallen off the map a little and Nolan wanted to send a message to the team that only those playing to his level of standard will get the ice time. Varone has yet to find a permanent spot in the Sabres lineup and more subpar performances could mean a demotion back to the AHL. Nolan is notoriously tough on young players and if Varone doesn't get his ice time, he won't be able to produce offensively. His fantasy value is limited until he gets a regular role.

The Sabres have recalled Varone from AHL Rochester.
Varone, who leads Rochester with 29 points in 36 games, returns to the big club after a brief demotion following a three-game stint with Buffalo, in which he notched two goals (both scored last Thursday against Carolina) in three games.

Varone was reassigned to AHL Rochester on Saturday.
Varone turned in an impressive three-game stint with the Sabres, highlighted by a two-goal showing against the Hurricanes in a loss Thursday. His demotion signals that Torrey Mitchell (foot) could be ready to play in time for the Sabres' next game Tuesday, lessening the need for the team to keep Varone around. However, given how well he played during his first exposure to the NHL this season, expect him to get another call-up in the near future.

Varone represented the whole of the Buffalo offense Thursday, scoring the first two goals of his NHL career and going plus-1 in a 5-2 loss to Carolina.
A nice improvement for Varone over his season debut Tuesday, when he went minus-2 against the Devils. He showed promise in that game, though, putting five shots on goal to foreshadow Thursday's breakout. Varone, who owns 29 points in 35 games for AHL Rochester and was a 61-point man there last year, skated a solid 15:19 for the Sabres on Thursday.

Varone was recalled by the Sabres on Sunday.
Varone doesn't have any appearances for Buffalo this season and won't likely enjoy an extended stay at the NHL level during this current stint. He played in nine games for the Sabres last season and managed to register one goal and one assist during that time span.

Varone was one of 11 cuts made by the Sabres on Friday.
Varone was a long-shot to make the roster and will return to Rochester for the season, where he will be one of the team's go-to forwards. Varone is an aggressive player who can score on a consistent basis but is often held back by his size.
