He's currently on a seven-game point streak and is now in a three-way tie for fourth in the NHL with 49 points in 44 games. Barring an injury, Datsyuk is a good bet to record 85-90 points this season.

His absence against the Islanders is more precautionary and the veteran forward expects to be in the lineup Thursday at home against Phoenix. Datsyuk says he was injured during Sunday's game at Chicago. He scored the game-winner in OT and logged 21:25 versus the Central Division rivals. Datsyuk is 13-30-43 in 41 games.

Pavel Datsyuk scored an overtime game-winner to cap the Detroit Red Wings' come-from-behind 3-2 win against the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks were up 2-0, but Detroit managed to come back and win it in overtime. Datsyuk snatched the puck from Marian Hossa to create that deciding tally, making that Datsyuk's 13th goal of the season.

Datsyuk's performance comes despite the fact he's been playing with a sore arm, as a result of a slash in an earlier game. Niklas Kronwall and Nicklas Lidstrom each scored goals in the Detroirt victory.

Pavel Datsyuk only took one faceoff in the first two periods on Thursday. Datsyuk was slashed on Wednesday and it affected his ability to take draws but his competitive juices were flowing in the third period as he took seven draws. He was five of eight in the game. "There's nothing wrong, but he wasn't feeling as good," coach Mike Babcock said. "His determination kicked in (in the third period)."
