Datsyuk (shoulder) has been officially ruled out of Thursday's season opener against the Bruins, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports. For the first time in his 13-year career, Datsyuk will not be a part of Detroit's Opening Night lineup, as he has yet to receive clearance for contact. He's been able to skate lightly with the team the last couple of days, but until he's a more active participant in the drills, a return shouldn't be deemed forthcoming.

Datsyuk (shoulder) is unlikely to be activated from injured reserve before Thursday's season opener, Chuck Pleiness of the Macomb Daily reports. Datsyuk provided a glimmer of hope by practicing Monday without a non-contact jersey, but he was back in one during Tuesday's session, which would indicate he will not be healthy enough to play Thursday. With Datsyuk up and skating around however, it does not seem his absence will extend too far into the regular season.

Datsyuk (shoulder) practiced with the team Monday, Chuck Pleiness of Macomb Daily Sports reports. The star centerman has been at practice for a few days now, but was able to participate without a grey no-contact jersey Monday. He's still on IR for now, but it sounds like Datsyuk is relatively close to being activated as the start of the regular season approaches.

Datsyuk (shoulder) was placed on short-term injured reserve Friday, retroactive to Sept. 22. While Datsyuk is likely to start the season on injured reserve, the move will allow the Red Wings to activate him as soon as he's deemed ready to return to game action. At the moment, Datsyuk doesn't look to be ahead of schedule in his recovery from the separated right shoulder, as he was limited to non-contact practice Friday for the second straight day, according to MLive.com's Ansar Khan. He's projected to return around mid- to late-October.

Datsyuk (shoulder) will likely miss another 2-to-3 weeks, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Datsyuk has been able to practice despite the injury, but it will be at least a couple more weeks before he is ready to see game action.

Datsyuk (separated right shoulder) said he was feeling "much better" three days after suffering the injury, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. It's probably still safest to forecast a four-to-five week absence for Datsyuk, but there's optimism from the Red Wings that he might be able to beat the timetable. Datsyuk will be able to maintain conditioning by skating while he remains out, so he may not require a rehab assignment upon receiving clearance to play in games. It still remains to be seen how Datsyuk's absence will impact the Red Wings' line arrangements in the interim, but a depth center like Riley Sheahan or Joakim Andersson could be elevated to a top-six role in his stead.

Red Wings GM Ken Holland said Wednesday that Datsyuk has been diagnosed with a second-degree separation of his right shoulder and will be out for a four-to-five weeks, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports. Holland raised the possibility that the center may miss as few as two-to-four weeks depending on how he progresses through the healing process, according to the Detroit Free Press' Helene St. James, but it's probably safer to bank on the further end of that timetable, given Datsyuk's age and extensive injury history. Datsyuk, who missed 37 games last season, had been centering Darren Helm and Tomas Tatar in training camp, but the injury will force coach Mike Babcock to reshuffle his lines. The 36-year-old suffered the separated shoulder during Monday's exhibition against the Penguins, after he was checked into the glass by defenseman Rob Scuderi.

Datsyuk (shoulder) will undergo an MRI but said he expects to miss at least a week, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports. Datsyuk suffered a shoulder injury during Monday's preseason opener against Pittsburgh, in which he recorded a goal and an assist. The 36-year-old is yet to undergo an MRI but indicated that he likely won't skate for at least a week. More will be known following the MRI, but for now it appears as though he'll miss a good chunk of the preseason.

Datsyuk injured his shoulder in Monday's preseason opener against the Penguins, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports. Datsyuk returned to training camp at full health after undergoing a minor knee procedure in April, but it didn't take long for him to get nicked up again. While he played well in his return to the ice, notching a goal and assist Monday, the painful check he absorbed from defenseman Robert Scuderi ended up marring his night. The Red Wings should relay more information on his condition Tuesday, but needless to say, it's not encouraging to see the 36-year-old already falling victim to injury.

Coach Mike Babcock relayed that Datsyuk (knee) said he was feeling "the best he has in years" this offseason, suggesting he'll be ready to go for training camp, NHL.com's Dan Rosen reports. Considering Datsyuk hasn't played since late April, it's no surprise he's feeling spry, but there's serious questions he'll hold up for 82 games as he enters his age-34 campaign. He's missed a total of 76 games over his last four seasons, muting the impact of the nearly point-per-game production he provides when healthy. Considering his injury history, Datsyuk might not be worth the markup price his name will cost fantasy players on draft day.
