Red Wings GM Ken Holland said Wednesday that Datsyuk has been diagnosed with a second-degree separation of his right shoulder and will be out for a four-to-five weeks, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Holland raised the possibility that the center may miss as few as two-to-four weeks depending on how he progresses through the healing process, according to the Detroit Free Press' Helene St. James, but it's probably safer to bank on the further end of that timetable, given Datsyuk's age and extensive injury history. Datsyuk, who missed 37 games last season, had been centering Darren Helm and Tomas Tatar in training camp, but the injury will force coach Mike Babcock to reshuffle his lines. The 36-year-old suffered the separated shoulder during Monday's exhibition against the Penguins, after he was checked into the glass by defenseman Rob Scuderi.
