Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews might not sign on July 1 after all. Kane and Toews will almost certainly re-sign with Chicago anyways, but this could be an indication that the duo is demanding more than the Blackhawks are comfortable with. If that's the case then Chicago could run into problems continuing to build a Stanley Cup-caliber team around them once they do sign.

Look for Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews to be signed on July 1. Kane and Toews weren't eligible to be signed prior to that, but if Tuesday ends without them inking an extension, it would be surprising. The only question is how much their extensions will cost the Blackhawks as the more they asked for, the harder it will be for Chicago to stay competitive in the years to come.

Chicago Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman wants to have Patrick Kane signed on July 1. Kane has already made it clear that he'd like to re-sign with Chicago and the two sides shouldn't have trouble meeting that target date. The only real question is how much Kane will get as it will obviously have an impact on how much space the Blackhawks have for the team's supporting cast.

Patrick Kane would gladly welcome signing a contract extension with the Chicago Blackhawks. That should come as no surprise. Kane and Jonathan Toews have one year left on their respective contract and the Blackhawks have made signing them to extensions their top off-season priority. "I know we both love it here in Chicago, love playing here and having the chance to win every year," said Kane. Agent Pat Brisson represents both players and Chicago GM Stan Bowman is excited to start the negotiation process.

Chicago owns a 12-2 record in Games 6 or 7 during the careers of Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. Kane has been very productive over that span with nine goals and 17 points. "You try to take it upon yourself to try and step up in big situations," he said. "But we have a lot of guys that do that. I think with our team and the amount of great players that are on it, it seems like everyone has their time to step up and have the spotlight and be in that moment. There's been numerous guys that have done it. When it's your turn, it's always fun to contribute." The Blackhawks have won an impressive 25 of 29 games after Game 4 in a series with Kane and Toews on the roster.

Patrick Kane's recent play has him in the discussion for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the NHL's MVP during the playoffs. Kane has registered seven points in the Hawks' past two games (both do or die wins) and has a total of four game-winning goals this post-season. In fact, he is the first player in a dozen years to register three or more points in back-to-back elimination games. Kane may not have produced consistently over the entire playoffs to this point, but boy does he come up big when it counts the most.

Patrick Kane dished out four assists during Chicago's wild 5-4 win in double overtime on Wednesday night to stave off elimination against the L.A. Kings. Kane was a force to be reckoned with for each one of the 28 minutes he spent on the ice in Game 5. The highly talented forward has a knack for scoring big overtime goals, but it was his playmaking abilities which caught the spotlight in Wednesday's incredible game and helped the Blackhawks send the series back to Los Angeles. Kane has 15 points through 17 playoff games.
