Smith has been hot lately, so he's worth a start in most leagues. In eight games in the month of December, he's posted a .935 save percentage and 2.62 goals against average. That said, he's facing the Wild who are top 10 in the league in goals per game with 2.90, so he could have his hot streak broken.

Smith recorded 44 saves for the second time this season in a shootout victory over the Maple Leafs on Thursday.

This was the sixth time in 15 games where Smith made at least 40 saves. He was absolutely sensational, especially in overtime when he turned aside three golden chances from Auston Matthews. In the shootout, Smith received some help, as two of the Maple Leafs shots hit the post or crossbar. Smith is now 7-4-4 with a 2.62 GAA and .931 save percentage.

Smith will start between the pipes in Thursday's road game against the Maple Leafs.

EDGE Analysis

Smith stood on his head in his last start, turning aside 37 of 38 shots in Tuesday's 4-1 win over Detroit. The 34-year-old netminder will look to pick up his seventh win of the season in a tough road matchup with a talented young Toronto squad averaging 3.36 goals per game at home this season, sixth in the NHL.

Smitty got right back on the horse a night after being blown up for four goals on 22 shots (and pulled) in a disastrous 7-0 loss to the Penguins, turning aside all but one shot the Wings sent his way. The veteran netminder improved his GAA to 2.65 to go with a .929 save percentage while appearing in 12 of the last 13 games, so if you can deal with the lack of wins (he has just six), then he makes for a relatively strong play between the pipes.

Smith was pulled from his last start, having allowed four goals on 22 shots in a loss to the Penguins, and now the veteran tender has allowed at least three goals in six of 14 outings this campaign. Smith does have a winning record at 5-4-4, but it's tough to imagine that the puck luck will continue much longer. After all, the Coyotes are averaging a league-high 35.4 shots per game.

Smith saved 18 of 22 shots before being pulled from the game in the second period of Monday's 7-0 loss to Pittsburgh.

EDGE Analysis

This was a nightmare spot for Smith and the Coyotes. The Penguins have now won all six of their December games and scored no fewer than four tallies in any outing with 35 total goals. Arizona has three more road games over the next five nights, so it might prove to be a tough upcoming run for the veteran goalie.

Smith will start in the blue paint Monday against the Penguins.

EDGE Analysis

Smith has locked down the crease in each of the las two contests, stopping 77 of 80 shots faced combined but going just 1-0-1. Offensive support has been a struggled for the veteran netminder and that may be the case again Monday against a surging Pittsburgh team that has won five consecutive games.

Smith turned aside 44 of 45 shots in a 4-1 win against Nashville on Saturday.

EDGE Analysis

The Coyotes netminder had lost his previous five starts, but his goaltending was pretty solid during that stretch, so it was nice to see him get back into the win column. Smith actually has a .946 save percentage in his last four games. He's faced an average of 41.75 shots per game during that stretch. Owners looking to add Smith will get the most help from him in the save percentage category.

Smith will start in goal Saturday night against the Predators.

EDGE Analysis

The Coyotes really need Smith to bring his A-game in order to snap a six-game winless skid. The veteran puck plugger has been streaky over 10 outings since returning from a lower-body injury Nov. 16, equating to a 3-3-4 record, 2.59 GAA and .930 save mark. Smith won't have the on-ice support from Max Domi in the upcoming contest, as the skilled pivot has moved to IR with an upper-body ailment.

Smith stopped 33 of 35 shots Thursday before falling 2-1 in overtime to the Flames.

EDGE Analysis

The veteran's losing streak stretched to five games in this one, which is somewhat misleading considering he made 33, 40 and 58 (!) saves in three of those contests. Smith has just four wins in 12 appearances after being shelved with a lower-body injury for a good chunk of the season, but owns a decent .926 save percentage, which still gives him tangible value in deeper leagues despite the lack of victories (and bloated 2.70 GAA).
