Mike Smith has been selected as the NHL's third star of the week.
Smith stopped all 82 shots he faced in back-to-back shutouts last week. He's one of the main reasons the Phoenix Coyotes are in the fight for a playoff spot. He has a 35-18-10 record, 2.29 GAA, and .927 save percentage in 64 starts this season.

Mike Smith recorded his second straight shutout as the Phoenix Coyotes defated the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night 4-0.
As Smith goes, so do the Coyotes and right now he is in one of his grooves. Phoenix has earned points (4-0-2) in his six last starts. Smith kicked away 38 Thursday and made 44 more saves Saturday. The 30-year-old has a 35-18-10 record, 2.29 goals-against average and .927 save percentage this season. This effort helped the Yotes tie the Kings for first place in the Pacific Division, and the fantasy steal has probably already aided enough fantasy owners in their quest for a title.

Mike Smith was perfect Thursday night, making 33 saves for the shutout in the Phoenix Coyotes' 2-0 win over the San Jose Sharks.
The netminder's shutout was his sixth of the season while his record improved to 34-18-10 and his rates to a 2.33 goals-against average and .926 save percentage. It's probably fair to assume that Smith's success in the last four games will have a huge affect on whether the Yotes make it to the postseason. They're in seventh now, one point above the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks.

Despite coming up just short against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday, it looks like Mike Smith will get the nod on Sunday too.
Jeremy Rutherford reports that Smith will play on March 25 instead of backup Jason LaBarbera. Smith has a 33-18-10 record with nice individual numbers this season, so don't blame Dave Tippett for riding him during the stretch run - especially with every point being important with a playoff spot and/or Pacific Division title on the line.

Mike Smith made 29 saves, but came up short in the Phoenix Coyotes' 4-3 shootout loss to the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night.
The netminder allowed two in the first period on 10 shots, then one 49 seconds into the final frame. He also gave up two in the shootout. Smith has had a remarkable year and has been one of the best fantasy-league steals with a 33-18-10 record, 2.36 goals-against average and .924 save percentage.

Mike Smith was excellent in net, stopping 39 shots in the Phoenix Coyotes' 3-2 victory versus the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night.
Smith has been struggling a bit over the past two weeks, so tonight's effort was very encouraging. Though, this feel-good win could've turned into a heartbreaking loss (or just one point) as Colorado netted two goals in the third period, recording 17 shots to just seven for the Phoenix. The win puts the Coyotes in first place in the Pacific Division.

Mike Smith allowed three goals on 33 shots in the Coyotes' 4-3 shootout loss to Dallas Tuesday.
Smith allowed an early goal to Loui Eriksson, but steadied himself enough to turn in a decent performance, however it wasn't enough to earn him a victory. Despite the loss, Smith's record stands at 32-19-8.

Mike Smith blocked 36 of 38 shots in the Coyotes' 3-2 shootout win Sunday night.
Smith was great in this game and he's been one of the biggest surprises of the NHL season to-date. He has provided number one goaltender-type production in fantasy leagues this year.

Mike Smith has been named the Phoenix Coyotes nominee for the Bill Masterton Trophy.
The trophy is awarded to the NHL player who best exemplifies dedication, sportsmanship and perseverance. Smith had a terrible year last season in Tampa Bay and it was thought he would be a backup goalie at best this season. But he signed on with the Coyotes in the off-season, grabbed the top job and hasn't looked back since. He s 31-19-8 with a 2.36 GAA and a .924 save percentage. He is a must start in all fantasy pools that use goaltending stats.

Mike Smith allowed four goals on 19 shots in the Phoenix Coyotes' 4-1 loss to the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.
This was a pretty ugly one for Smith, and he's now given up four goals apiece in three straight, during which he has a 1-1-1 record. The goalie has enjoyed an excellent year -- 31-19-8 record, 2.36 goals-against average and .924 save percentage -- and the Yotes will rely on him heavily down the stretch to keep their playoff hopes alive.
