Mike Smith was excellent in net, stopping 39 shots in the Phoenix Coyotes' 3-2 victory versus the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night. Smith has been struggling a bit over the past two weeks, so tonight's effort was very encouraging. Though, this feel-good win could've turned into a heartbreaking loss (or just one point) as Colorado netted two goals in the third period, recording 17 shots to just seven for the Phoenix. The win puts the Coyotes in first place in the Pacific Division.
