Mike Knuble is expected to sign with the Philadelphia Flyers.
According to GM Paul Holmgren, Knuble and the Flyers will agree to a contract after he passes his physical on Friday. The decision to bring back the former Philadelphia winger was made shortly after news broke that Scott Hartnell would be out of commission for 4-8 weeks with a broken foot. "Obviously we're familiar with Mike," said Holmgren. "He was here for a few years, and he's a good guy. A good, big, and heavy player. We think he's a good guy to throw in the mix right now." Knuble had been playing with AHL Grand Rapids on a 25-game tryout contract.

Mike Knuble has inked a professional tryout with the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins.
Grand Rapids is the AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings. Knuble took part in Detroit's training camp on a tryout basis, but wasn't able to make the team's opening game roster. Still, it looks like the 40-year-old plans to extend his playing career.

Mike Knuble got a chance to play on the second line with Valtteri Filppula will play with Johan Franzen during Tuesday's scrimmage.
Knuble joined the Red Wings' training camp on a tryout basis. He had six goals and 18 points in 72 games last season with the Washington Capitals. If he does end up making the Red Wings, he probably won't get regular time on Detroit's second line despite his role in the scrimmage.

Mike Knuble will be attending Red Wings camp on a tryout.
Knuble had 18 points in 72 games with the Capitals last year. With a pretty crowded roster, the 40-year-old could have a tough time cracking Detroit's lineup. He'd fill a bottom-six role if the Wings determine that he still has something left in the tank.

Unrestricted free agent forward Mike Knuble admitted that his future is "up in the air" to the Washington Times' Stephen Whyno.
Knuble most recently played for the Washington Capitals, suffering from a massive drop-off in numbers. His goals (24 to 6), points (40 to 18) and plus/minus (+10 to -15) all plummeted dramatically from 2010-11 to 2011-12. Still, it's not hard to imagine a team giving him a shot considering his eight-year run of 20+ tallies.

Mike Knuble would like to continue his NHL career, but the league's labor uncertainty is delaying his chances of signing somewhere.
"My situation will be in a limbo until the labor situation is settled," he said. "There are a group of free agents who will get kind of plucked and hopefully put places, and that includes me. I think teams have a sense of what it is they're looking for." The 40-year-old veteran scored only six goals and 18 points in 72 games last season, so the Washington Capitals decided to allow him to walk as a free agent. Knuble understands that his playing days might be over, but he will take his chances and wait for an opportunity to arise before making a final decision.

Mike Knuble has reported that Washington GM George McPhee has informed him that he won't be brought back by the Capitals for the 2012-13 season.
"I don't think it was unexpected, the way things went this season," Knuble said. "There are younger guys stepping up and those guys will need a spot to play and a chance to play... . It's really the first time in my career that I've been told by a team they don't want me back, but it's not like I was blindsided." Knuble, who will turn 40 years of age on July 4 will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He suited up in 72 games with Washington this past campaign, while earning six goals and 12 assists, in a reduced role with the organization.

Mike Knuble is interested in playing in 2012-13.
Knuble will be 40 on July 4th and he's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He's coming off of a rough season, so there might not be a lot of demand for his services.

Mike Knuble was one of the Captials' unlikely heros in Game 5 Saturday.
He scored the trying goal on a rebound and was effective on a line with Joel Ward and Keith Aucoin. Knuble had been a healthy scratch for the first three games of the series but has put in two solid performances and will be in the lineup Sunday for Game 6.
