Mike Knuble will probably spend his third straight game in the press box on Monday. It wouldn't surprise us if the Capitals trade Knuble before the Feb. 27 deadline. There's been speculation that the San Jose Sharks would be a good suitor for his services, but it remains to be seen if Knuble will draw much interest.

The San Jose Sharks might be interested in acquiring Mike Knuble. Knuble was a healthy scratch on Thursday and might spend his second straight game in the press box on Sunday. He's in the twilight of his career, but him getting sent to the Sharks is one of the few scenarios that make us excited about his prospects for the rest of the season. With Martin Havlat (hamstring) still sidelined, Knuble might get a chance to play on a line with his former Boston Bruins teammate, Joe Thornton. The possibility of Knuble being acquired by San Jose is still just a rumor, but it's definitely not outside of the realm of possibilities.

Mike Knuble, who was a healthy scratch on Thursday, will be a game-time decision on Sunday. Knuble has no goals and just three assists in his last 27 games. Maybe a little tough love will help Knuble snap out of his cold streak, but we wouldn't bet on that if you're in a standard league. At the age of 39, Knuble's fantasy value is limited at best.

Mike Knuble will sit as a healthy scratch when the Capitals host Winnipeg on Thursday night. "It's always hard to do," coach Dale Hunter said, "But you put [Jay] Beagle in [for] more speed. Mike hasn't scored in a while, figured get him up top and watch the game." It has been 27 games since Knuble last found the back of the net and he has collected just three assists over that span. Beagle has been a healthy scratch for the past five contests.

When Washington's Mike Knuble takes the ice for his first shift tonight at home against Nashville, he will have played in his 1,000th NHL game. A 1991 fourth-round selection of the Red Wings, Knuble went from a player struggling to get 10 minutes per night to one of the game's most dependable power forwards. In his first 999 games, the 39-year-old has 271 goals and 531 points.

Mike Knuble practiced on the Capitals' fourth line on Monday. Knuble also spent half of Saturday's game on the Capitals' last line. "You always take it personally," Knuble said. "We're all competitive and we all want to play. We knew coming in it would be a more competitive season. Maybe seasons before you could rest on your laurels, but that's not good enough. That's the way this coach works." Knuble has two goals and six points in nine games this season, which is about what we'd expect from him.

Mike Knuble is penciled into Washington's top line to start 2011-12 with Alex Ovechkin with Nicklas Backstrom. "I always think that Nicky and Alex in the end are meant for each other, so to speak," said coach Bruce Boudreau. "So that's a fit and who knows, Mike has been on that line for two years and I think he's the best early fit." Backstrom and Ovechkin played with a number of different linemates during the preseason, but there was little doubt that they would be separated for the beginning of the year.

Mike Knuble doesn't want this to be his last NHL season. Knuble is 39 years old and he'll be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. "I'm out there playing for another deal," Knuble said. "I'm not riding off into the sunset. I want to make that point clear to everybody. This is no farewell song." Knuble had 24 goals and 40 points in 79 games last season. He's a good bet to surpass the 20-goal marker for the ninth straight year, but beyond that his fantasy value is limited.
